I would get a slightly more powerful psu, even though the neotech is quality. Also, SLI is not worth it so maybe think about 1 7800gtx. Also, you may want to try thr DFI NF4 mobo instad of the Asus one. You can also save money by getting a NEC dvd burner for like $45.

7800gtx is faster than 2 6800 ultras in SLI. i also wouldn't recommend that asus, i'd go with EPoX for almost $100 less or if you plan on doing alot of overclocking the DFI. i really doubt there is any feature that you need on the asus that will justify its price.

you also don't have any memory listed

Try the NEC 3540A. Maybe you should save yourself some money and get the MSI Neo-4 SLI and screw the sound card. I'm not sure what the difference between the platinum sli and the regular Neo4 sli is though. Also, unless your planning on going raid0, IDE hard drives work pretty well, and the major retailers are having big sales on hard drives. 160 GB hard drives are only going for 40 dollars after rebates, and thats retail too. Finally, with all the money you saved if you go with my suggestions, you can get a $491 7800GTX from dell. Check out the hot deals section. Also, it seems that your missing ram.

I guess this guy hasn't seen the latest motherboard benchmarks from anandtech, this board is really awesome for the price Here is the article!!!

Read that and you will want this board, good choice there, I would step up to the 4400+ though for not too much more money it's well worth the increase.

Corsir memory works great with asus boards and many others. I've heard some DLI NF4 boards don't like corsair though.

The X2 4400+ is worth the extra $$ over the 4200, I think most people would agree with that. You'll probably also want a higher output power supply too, if you're spending $2k you might as well.

I have a 7800gtx and it's great. 2 6800's would probably be a $100 more than a 7800gtx at least. 7800gtx all the way....

I don't think an extra $170 dollars is worth the 4400...in that case i wouldnt be able to afford a 7800GTX...i cant really go over 2100

Oops I take that back, I was looking at newegg, at monarch computer its 654, like 80 dollars cheaper...so I'm not sure its worth the extra 100 dollars, maybe...i guess i can take my monitor back and get a CRT for around 300-400

The major thing you should worry about is the motherboard and the memory as mentioned Asus are great motherboards but DFI better overclocking memory wise try and get at least cas latency 2 and if you going to be playing games like BF2 online get 2gbs of memory

What kind of game is BF2? not sure if I'll need the 2 GB of memory, any thoughts on this? I suppose i can get a cheaper CRT monitor by taking the 19" LCD back or use my crappy 17" one that i already have.
I'll need to get a monitor around $300 it looks like if i want the 7800GTX video card, the 4400 Processor, and the 2 GB of memory...

$2000 for a computer gets you the best of the best!

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ Dual Core CPUs ($525 from Newegg)

Motherboard: DFI LANParty UT nF4 Ultra-D Motherboard or one of the SLI versions if you are seriously considering SLI down the road (wait 'til the 7800 GTX drops way down in price before buying a second one) ($110 from MonarchComputer)

RAM: (512MB x 2) OCZ Platinum Revision 2 PC3200 DDR RAM ($165 from Newegg)
Video Card: BFG GeForce 7800 GT OC GPU ($520 from Dell from Dell after some discounts)

Hard Drive 1: Western Digital Raptor 74GB ($160 from Newegg)

Hard Drive 2: Maxtor Diamondmax 10 SATA HD ($120 to $200 from Newegg) or Seagate Barracuda SATA HD ($125 to $200 from Newegg)

LCD: Dell UltraSharp 1905FP 19" LCD ($375 from Dell after some discounts) or 2001FP ($460 from Dell after some discounts)

Optical Drive: NEC ND-3540A Burner ($42 from Newegg)

Power Supply: Antec SmartPower 2.0 500W PSU or similar Enermax PSU ($75 from Newegg)

Case: High-end Lian-Li or Antec Case ($150-200 from Newegg)

If you want speakers and sound card, grab somethign like z-2300s and the Audigy2 ZS and go to the 19" LCD and a $150 case.

That should total about $2000 if you already have a monitor and speakers, well, then frankly I don't know how to spend that much money. Make something up.

Good luck.

Check Techbargains for some good Dell deals.

well i was going to buy the dell one when it was 500 but then the coupon stopped working the second after i proceeded to checkout...and i also had to buy the 150 dollar windows x64, which would put me overbudget if i bought 4200 cpu or 7800GTX for 600 dollars. and oh yes i got a better monitor too...both of which i would rather have than a bit more speed on the cpu and video card.

That's what I call shafted.

buck: "Nice, although i would choose the 2005fpw."

But it's widescreen... I heard the view gets all messed up with widescreen when trying to play games.
