So I am a complete noob when it comes to non technical merchandise. I would assume egyptian cotton and down comforters but I'm not sure that is top of the top. You touch those comforters they have out at Macy's and BB&B and they feel like hotel blankets. We are looking for a naked bed something that will always be inviting. Where the hell do I start? I'm thinking TEMPUR or Select Comfort or SEALY not sure what though. King or California king and sheets and pillows that guarantee a good night's sleep.

Have you rebuilt your bed lately?

It's a bedroom, you or your wife will be redocorating in 6-months time.

Plan on owning 2-3 sets of sheets. I would go no larger than a King as far as mattress sizes go. Queen is ideal for size unless you like a ton of space.

Expect the comforter/curtains to change every other year.

Sleigh bed Mahogony King
High count cotton sheets (But which?)
Down comforter? I don't know if there is any better
Pillows (Who makes the best pillows, need 2 firm 2 soft)

Mattress (Hardest decision. How the hell do you know which is the one after only spending mins on a test bed?)

For beds, two options:

1. Pillowtop
2. Foam (Temperpedic)

We currently have a Pillowtop. It's super-comfy and very cheap, I think our Queen set was like $500ish at Sam's Club. Incredibly comfortable. Only problem is if you or your SO move a lot in your sleep, it transfers all the movement to the other person. I roll around and twitch in my sleep and it keeps my wife up. We recently tried out a foam bed, the Temperpedic, and will definately be switching when we move again. Zero weight transfer and super comfy as well...only problem is that they are very expensive. The high-end King is upwards of $6,000.

Our sheets are 400-thread count Egyptian cotton, just from Target. Pillows, whatever you like.

Our bedspread (blanket) is a down comforter from Ikea. It's so comfy we don't even use the top sheet on our bed. We got a King size for our Queen bed, lots of extra room if you want to roll yourself up when it gets cold. Ikea comforter + nice sheets + Pillowtop = bliss :D

Edit: Oh yeah frame - get a good one! A friend gave us a cast iron bedframe as a wedding gift, it's rock solid. I've had bedframes in the past that are not solid and squeak...it pays for itself when you don't wake up your SO in the middle of the night when you have to use the bathroom or get a drink :)

Not sure, we've had ours about a year and a half and it still looks brand new, no sags or anything. I did a quick google and it said every 8 to 10 years. Honestly, a good bed setup is one of the best investments you'll ever make. I love sleeping on my bed, it's so comfortable...easy to fall asleep in, no back problems when I wake up, nice to lay down and read or watch some TV on. A Pillowtop is a great first investment, but again, those foamies are way nicer, you just have to pony up a few grand to get one. I really wish I had known about the foam mattresses when I first got married, I would have saved up for one of those instead!

Get a decent bed frame. I bought a nice wooden bed that our mattress and box spring sit on and it doesn't move at all (well, it squeaks a bit every now and then but that's another story).

I do endorse the pillowtop mattress though.

Oh, and a queen has always been fine for my wife and I.

Edit-High thread count sheets like 400 or higher & 100% cotton are good. Get a decent down comforter, some down pillows and a high thread count comforter cover and you're golden.

Do the bed whatever way your woman wants.

Your bed = her workbench.

That's where she controls you from.

I have a Bombay cast-iron bedframe...it won't even move in earthquakes lol. The Pillowtop is just so bouncy that if you roll over the person next to you feels it.

My dad and step mom have one of these. It cost a bundle, but it's damn amazing. I haven't gotten to sleep in it, but laying in it and messing with the remote control I can say I would probably sleep like a baby in this sucker :) When I had first seen it on the Infomercial, I thought it sounded like a Gimmick, but it's nice, they both love it.

Some malls have a store that sells only these, they should last a long time, so expensive or not it would be a great investment.
