I might just use an old one for the initial installation and take it out or do it via USB. Good point though, totally forgot about that, thanks.

Do I need to update the SSD or do anything special with this stuff before I start?

Just saw that, seems like pretty decent chances although some people aren't getting it. I ended up picking it up at newegg with the mobo for $300 so I got a better deal (depending on whether or not you need a mobo)! Thanks for looking out though!

Anyone have any opinions on the Razer Death Adder?

What keyboard do you guys recommend?

Thats purely a personal preference type of thing. Do you want programmable or non-programmable? Back lit or non back lit? Personally I'm a big fan of the Saitek Eclipse keyboards. I use the Eclipse II on all my rigs. But thats just my preference.

Damn, everything is gonna get here Friday but the mobo. Newegg sent it from California to Ontario, wtf?! The other newegg item left from the east coast and will be here Friday lol

Wicked, tested out my monitor, everything looks fine. Found one semi stuck pixel at the very bottom and touched it really slightly with a q-tip and it went away. I'll monitor that dot for a while since I'm anal but in my experiences those don't return. Initial reports show no light leak/flashlights. The anti glare coating is a bit aggressive (kinda muddies up the display), but I'm used to it. Colors looked great! Totally different than my laptop screen lol.

Ontario, CA is Ontario, California, not Ontario, Canada. 😉

Parts look good though! I'm sure that you will like it.

hahhaha! Wow, i feel like an idiot! 😀 little bit POd about the mobo, but maybe a miracle will happen (though newegg has never made a mistake in estimation...usually even if its in the warehouse 30 minutes away from me for a day they wont deliver it until the day after so it'll be "on time" haha).

It's been a while since I've built a computer...is there somewhere I can go to figure out what drivers I need to install and in what order? Or what programs (like is it necessary to install intel rapid restore or whatever)?

Check SSD drivers
Check mobo drivers
check gpu drivers

Anything i'm missing? heh...

If you are not planning to use SRT (i.e. SSD caching), you really only need to install the GPU drivers. Make sure you set the SATA controller to AHCI in the BIOS before you install Windows though.

Probably not. First and foremost you should have your OS and programs installed on an SSD. SRT is nice if you have a secondary SSD to use to cache your non-OS storage HDD. That can be useful if you have a large collection of games, or if you do some work that requires frequent access to a large amount of data

 Agree

im hoping this sucker isnt too loud. i only have 2 fans installed (top and rear, came with case) and the CPU cooler is a 212+ so thats 120mm. I bet the loudest thing will be the 2gb 6950 but that is also considered quiet compared to others. if all goes well, i'll eventually probably add a silent fan or two at the front and switch the old ones out with a more quiet version.

I'm having a tough time figuring out what to do for the thermal paste pattern for the CM 212+ and the i5-2500K.

The Arctic Silver website says to use the vertical line method when applying paste for the i5-2500K. But I dont think that'll work so well if I'm using the CM 212+. Any ideas what method I should use when applying thermal paste?

I have seen people do all sorts of ways. The line. The spot. The spread with finger (I never could get that one right), and spread with credit card. To be honest the best way I have found for me is to use the line method. I have used the spot method with good results but the line (vertical or horizontal doesn't seem to make a difference) method has given me the best results. Ever seen long grain rice before? That is about how long I make it.
