Why separate CDRW/DVD Drives?

I understand that they are cheap, but for the same money you can get a combo drive which I would prefer. Easier to move around and if he got a DVD Burner later, he would still have both features in the other drive.

Also why not get the EP=8KDA3J instead? then he gets the better DAC for audio even if he doesn't use all 8 channels available?

Next, the video card. Though I love the 9800 Pro series it is getting long in the tooth. If this is a new build look at the 6600GT and 6800 128MB cards as they are just as capable and a little more future proof.

well, there is a slight problem. im well aware that the epox board you are suggesting has more bells and whistles, and that the 6600GT/6800 are better than a 9800nonpro. but what you dont seem to understand is that he simply cannot spend over $800. if you can kindly show me a 6600GT with AGP or a 6800NU for $175 with shipping, im all ears.

how about buy one 512mb ram and spend the extra on a 6600gt :) i'm not sure if that extra $65 will cover enough for it, i don't feel like doing math :)

thats not retail. i want the retail for 2 reasons, 1 for the heatsink. 2, and more importantly, for the 3 year warranty(since this isnt my computer, i think i want longer warranties)

also, i would like to stick with all newegg to make this easier. again, if this were mine i wouldnt mind ordering from a bunch of different places. but, if there is some insane deal somewhere else im all ears.

proof? link?

The proof is my personal experience with building machines, I'm currently a network admin, and prior to that I worked as a bench tech and from my PERSONAL experience, they are not great quality, lite-on are similarly priced and have a much better track record IMO
