Buffets ruining good food

I dunno. Friday I had a Wagyu burger that was pretty hard to match.

Anyone that would order a Waygu burger is proving his own ignorance of food. That's not something to be proud of. If you see Waygu on a menu in any form other than as a steak then the chef/owner is a pretentious douchebag whose sole goal is to bilk the incredibly stupid and if you're not incredibly stupid you leave.

Not fan of buffets. They reward huge consumption at the expense of quality. I don't like eating tons of food at a time. I'd rather get something a la carte.

Anyone who says that is proving their own ignorance generally. I'm not a fan of Wagyu burgers generally, it's the only kind they had, what sounded best, and is an incredibly good burger.

And ya, Wagyu is generally a misused/overused/false/obnoxious term.

And real Wagyu would have no place in a burger.

Yet a Wagyu steak tends to be $150-$250, this burger $18. If it's a great burger, it's a great burger.

I don't really disagree. My point wasn't 'buffet food isn't great', it was 'I'm amazed they ruined what seem like foolproof foods'.

Golden Corral is excellent

Hometown Buffet and Country Buffet are the same company, AFAIK. Same menu? Don't know.

Buffets are good when you don't know enough to order off a menu of unfamiliar items. Szechuan chicken? WTF is that? Not to worry, walk to the buffet and sample everything that looks good.

At buffets like Ryan's Steakhouse or Golden Corral the only items worth eating are steaks, salad, and rolls. Make a meal out of that. The rest is low-grade unpalatable crap you might find in a cafeteria.

I found a pube in an egg sandwich once, lucky for me that i opened it up to remove some cress,im sure it was an ass pube too.It has put me off buffets.

You don't go to a buffet to enjoy the best food. That's not the purpose. Obviously. Chains like Old Country Buffet or Golden Corral are low on the expectations scale for me.

The only time I expect decent food from a buffet is when it's priced about $30pp.

Missing the point though. Ruining foods like mac and cheese shouldn't happen even for a cheap buffet.

There's a Chinese buffet around here that has halfway-decent Chinese food, but they felt the need to dedicate one buffet table to American food. They've got pizza (terrible), chicken nuggets (I'm 99% sure they're frozen Tyson nuggets), french fries, onion rings, and some other crap.

^ all chinese buffets seem to do that. I think that's aimed at kids. Their sushi is also horrid. Go to a real sushi buffet if you want sushi buffet... not a chinese buffet.

Went out driving today, had breakfast in NH, a banana waffle as big as my head, oh it was so good!

Used to live in NH near Dartmouth where my wife was a grad student. After that I carry a little bottle of maple syrup to go to breakfast. Can't stand the Aunt Kayro's Log Cabin stuff. Muck in a bottle.

I don't eat at buffets in general. Haven't been to a Hometown Buffet in 15 years and it sucked then so I can't imagine it has gotten any better.

Restaurants, especially "Comfort Food" buffets, have to cater to the absolute lowest common denominator as far as taste goes. Moving to the Midwest, I've found that people here don't like any sort of spice or seasoning at all.

Ugh. This.

I was raised here, but my mom was from the east coast. I know I can cook - if I leave out the flavors, everybody likes it. But if I make it the way it's supposed to be, all I get are slow chewing, blank stares, requests for water, and lots of leftovers.

But at least if I make a curry, or anything with roasted garlic in it, I know it will be there for lunch tomorrow.

Buffet restaurants in the midwest are a crime against humanity. Old Country Buffet literally smells like fat people sweat and boiled vegetables. The Chinese places are the only exception - some of them are pretty good.

It's prison grade food. What do you expect from bottom of the barrel country food buffet? Go visit a prison and see if the mac and cheese is better there.
