IMO, those are both a bit...light. Endless Mike's suggestion is much better. (If you're going to overclock or run dual video cards, shoot for at least 650 watts)

No, I really meant to include a single 4GB DIMM. If he gets a mATX board, that only has two DIMM slots, then he has no capability for expansion if he gets 2x2GB DIMMs. With the single 4GB DIMM, he can always add another one later on for 8GB total. Besides, dual-channel on AMD chipsets is only a 5-10% difference in performance, if even that.

yes but i think the Motherboard only has two DIMMS so you can only use two sticks, pickup on 4gb stick now would be better then buying 2x2gb

The Athlon II 640 is a good choice IMO. It's a good choice for a cpu @ or under $100.

OP, don't be silly about the GPU. There is really no reason to get a GTS 450 if a GTX 460 will fit into your budget. Along the same lines, don't be silly about the motherboard. Pick the least expensive one that has the features that you want.

For the record, I like fffblackmage's build, though I might swap the Hitachi for a Samsung F3 ($10 more).

Just got my EVGA 460 which was about $150 after rebate
I'm looking for some games to play now, but so far dabbled in the older ones (CSS, Mass Effect, Bioshock) and it's a massive upgrade from the 7600GT I had. Couldn't be happier with my purchase so far.

No idea how it compares to the GTS450 though.

I agree with the PSU comments - I'm using an Antec and it's been good to me. Only heard great things about XFX and Seasonic over and over, too. fffblackmage and mfenn have helped me out a lot and are a great resource around here, so consider their advice!

Well, the "best" IGP for ATI is probably the HD4290 found on the 890GX chipset, but it's basically an overclocked HD4200.

Sideport memory has a pretty insignificant impact. Maybe it's because 128MB is just too little to rely entirely on it. It doesn't hurt to have it though, unless you have to pay extra for it.

You're not going to be able to game worth crap on an IGP anyway, so it's not worth paying extra for a "fancy" one. Just get the 880GM-LE recommended on the first page.
