I ran mPrime for a bit, and my CPU topped out at 61C. However, now the idle temp won't reurn w\to what it was before I started the test. (Was ~30, now up to 44.) Does this sound like my heatsink isn't seated correctly?

EDIT: There was a process keeping my CPU at ~50% on all cores. I restarted my PC, and now temps are 25-30C

My CPU fan is constantly running at 1400RPM no matter what I do. I even tried switching to the other CPU fan header (both are 4-pin). Any idea why this might be?

EDIT: Wait, it actually is in the wrong header right now... I'll change that now, but it won't fix the issue. :/

Hmmm....not sure.

Is it a problem? Like, is the noise bothering you?

You could try usingSpeedFan and seeing if that would let you adjust it.

It's a little loud, yeah. Then again, I'm getting bursts in the high 30s just from watching flash video, so I might need it that high. :/ I'm gonna need to buy a better cooler at some point maybe.

Also, my GPU always idles at 33C. Even when it's cold in my room. I have no idea how this is possible.

Idle'ing != "not producing any heat" :p

Try speedfan, you should be able to set a fan profile to lower the speed of the CPU fan if it's bothering you.

I know that, but I don't understand how ambient temp is having no effect on the GPU. It's really weird.

I'll try speedfan I guess. Thanks!

One of my CPU cores runs 3-10C cooler than the hottest core under full load (prime)... I need to reseat the cooler, don't I? -_-

The max temp is only 4C cooler, though, and for some bursts that core is the hottest one. It's pretty weird... All are below 65C with case fans on low though. Bad sensor perhaps?

I mean, I could be wrong, but I think you're fine. All cores below 65C under Prime95 stress? Sounds like your HSF is working perfectly well to me. I think it's normal and even expected (thermodynamically speaking) for the "inner" cores to get hotter than the outer cores.

Here's the funny thing, I wasn't on the Windows version at the time. Now I finally have Windows and have it running the large FFT test. It's been a few minutes and temps are fine so far, but the CPU turbo is only going up to 3.57GHz. :/ Why would that be?

EDIT: Wait, the max 4 core boost on the 4670k is actually 3.6GHz, not 3.7, isn't it? DOH!

No..all the core temps vary.

Yeah, I know. 10C just seemed like a lot.

Well, they don't seem to be going any higher, and they're mostly staying around 60C! I'd say that's pretty good, especially since the case fans are on low. Maybe I can get this to 4GHz just fine... I'll have to try once I feel ballsy enough to OC lol

EDIT: I stopped Prime and the temps dropped by 25C instantaneously. Yeah, my cooler's fine. Heh.

The fan speed keeps going lower and lower until it's practically stopped. You could set the GPU fan to a higher speed, but why bother? A GPU could run at 33C for 20 years and be fine.

First, make sure that the CPU fan is plugged into the 4-pin CPU_FAN1 header (CPU_FAN2 is 3-pin). Then go into the BIOS and go HW Monitor -> CPU Fan 1 & 2 Setting. From there you can define a fan speed vs. temperature curve.

First off, on the GPU thing, I'm more wondering how it is that ambient temp has no effect whatsoever. Just seems odd/

Well, it's in the right header, so I guess I'll check the BIOS out.

More pressing issue: One of my case fans randomly started making a really loud buzzing noise. Changing the fan controller setting on the case fixed it. Is something possibly wrong with the controller?

One of my front USB ports does not like flash drives. For any other device it works fine, and in any other port the drive works fine, but when I put the USB drive in that specific port the whole computer freaks out. It seemed like a virus, so I scanned it, but nothing. What's going on? o_O;

A little help with this is the least I could ask for after the lousy Powercolor recommendation. -_-

EDIT: Sorry, that was wrong of me. I haven't had the best of weeks and I'm just taking it out on people.

What does "freaked out" mean? Do other drives work fine in that port?

What's wrong with the video card? Are you referring to the temperatures? Those are behaving exactly as expected. As has been explained, the GPU does not care if it's running at 30 or 40C, so it opts to keep the fan speed low.

By "freak out" I mean that... well, the computer freaks out. It acts up, the task bar vanishes, the screen flashes, can't get into the drive... It's just nuts. It's also stuck at 100% usage.

And all problems with the GPU are sorted out, though I was not aware that this card has bare MOSFETs. Kinda sucks. :/

Do other drives have the same problem in that slot?

Not sure how this is a problem? Most heatsinks don't make direct contact with the mosfets and it only really matters if you want to pump a ton of voltage into the card.

I don't have any other working drives to test in that slot at the moment. I could test my phone, but I think you'd understand why I don't want to risk my smartphone for something like this.

I completely understand. Hey USB drives are cheap though.
