Budget card, less than $50?

Just need to play CSGO (low resolution), Diablo 3, Minecraft and Heroes of the Storm. Nothing too fancy. Any thoughts?

Happy to buy one on FS/FT but it needs to be readily available. I have an old Radeon 5670 but it struggles a lot in HOTS, though it might be a CPU issue.

FYI, this will be paired with a stock G3258 (no overclocking).

Older cards might be dirt cheap but also big and power-hungry.

Note that this is pre-Fermi, so is not supported by the newest NVidia drivers. You'll have to hunt down some "legacy" drivers.

Edit: Wait, you currently have a 5670, that's not failing? I don't think that my 9600GSO is any faster than that one.

Do what Arachnotronic said. There really aren't any true gaming cards available under $100. Most of them are DDR3 pieces of junk. (I've got some GT630/GT730 Kepler 384 CC GPUs, with 1GB DDR3 on them, that I could get rid of too, but I can't really imagine using one of them for any serious gaming.)

Whatever you do, get something with GDDR5 on it, rather than DDR3, or worse.

Depends on your monitor size and resolution, but the 5670 was more for 720p and it was only a basic card at that. For the best value, I'd look at getting a 1080p capable card 2-3 generations old, eg the GTX 650 Ti, GTX 660, HD 7850, or HD 7870. You can get one here for $40-50, or try Craigslist.

There's a 270X on the FS/FT forum for $50 right now which would be a pretty massive step up from your 5670. From the other side of the aisle, a 750Ti would be a great choice if you are power constrained, but you'll probably have a hard time finding one for $50. The 660 jana mentioned would be as quick or quicker than a 750Ti, and you can probably pick one up in your budget.

every once in a while you can find an R9 380 on sale for $100. if your power supply can handle it (meaning, it's a name brand after market unit of 400 watts+, such as a corsair, antec, xfx, etc.), it's a bit faster than the 1050 from the reviews i was looking at this morning. but that's double your budget.

otherwise, as others have said, there's nothing *new* that's $50 and much of a step up from what you've got.

Those are such terrible options.

Powercolor RX 460 2GB (no 6 pin required) was as low as $65 AR brand new. You can get RX 460 2GB's regularly for about $80 AR new that will demolish a GTX 750 Ti. GTX 1050 2GB can be had for about $100 AR, but it's 25% more expensive and it isn't 25% faster. Next viable new option would probably be the GTX 950 2GB, they can be had for $90 AR sometimes.

Used market varies a lot, but you can pick up a R9 270/370/270X/370X (or 7850/7870 variant), GTX 660/760 for around $50. Just avoid the 1GB versions or anything older. But that's a crapshoot sometimes, and you're better forking over $30 more for a new RX 460 2GB/GTX 950 2GB... IMO.

20 x 5 =100.

If a gtx1050 is $100 it costs 20% more money if a 460 is $80.
That's how I see it.

If you literally have only $50 to spend, then you're in a bit of a pickle. Buying used is your best bet, since none of the 'new' cards at $50 are worth the cardboard they're boxed in - not for gaming at least. Video cards under $50 are for adding multi-monitor support to desktops that didn't come with them, and perhaps hardware-assisted video decode acceleration for people with old integrated video that doesn't support it. Not for gaming.
