Browser Wars!!!

So I'm conflicted on what internet browser to use on my new system. I have used Firefox a lot but I find it to be kind of clunky and slow at times. I like Chrome and it does seem faster than Firefox however it tends to hang up as well at times. I have tried Opera but do not like the feel. Safari actually reminds me a lot of Chrome however some content does not seem to display correctly with it in my experience. Anyone have any thoughts or advice?

Do you have both AdBlock and NoScript installed in Firefox? They both help speed things up, though it takes a few days of allowing your usual sites before NoScript stops being a PITA.

I've used adblock but never used no script....if I could get Firefox's stability, feature set, and compatibility with Chrome's speed I would be set.

Yeah. I stopped using FF as of late. For some reason the latest update is real buggy so I switched to Chrome until FF can get their shit together. Chrome is fast as hell.

I like Firefox with AdBlock Plus ... don't use no script (at this time) Works ok for me

I used to use Chrome...but I kept having issues where it would eventually start "lagging" (almost like the program was freezing every few seconds when I tried to do something).

I also have Fasterfox Lite installed but I have no idea if it helps anything. Installed because seemed like a popular addon, can't honestly say have noticed anything different.

I had even more installed before. Yeah. it takes a couple of seconds to launch Firefox at first but once it's up and running, everything's fine.

Install the experimental Fasterfox, not the lite version. You'll notice a difference.

This is interesting. I personally love Opera's feel and speed, it has the best download manager and WAND is easily the best password manager..... But I know a lot of people who don't like the feel of opera

Agree, Opera's download manger is great, as is the Wand. Now if they can only get an Ad Block that really works and is easy to use, then that might become my browser of choice. For now it is Firefox, with Opera second choice, IE8 my last choice

I like firefox with noscript and also there's a setting in about:config to deny ALL popups (unless you allow it for that site) with that I'm good to go. I will agree it is a bit slow and clunky since 1.x. When it first came out it was at it's prime. Since it's open source, think someone needs to take it and make a "lite" version. Probably just needs lot of code cleanup and such.

I also have tried Opera but also don't like the feel. Can't really explain why, I just don't feel right using it. It's not a bad browser per say, but just, guess it takes getting used to which I never really gave a chance.

I've switched browsers so much over the years. In the early days of Firefox I stuck with Opera. I finally switched to Firefox after annoyances with Opera, and now I use Chrome as my main browser and just use IE as a backup. I don't even have Firefox installed and havn't touched Opera in a long time.

i would use chrome if it had adblock, xmarks and fast dial. Those are the only three i really need.

I primarily use Chrome now, the faster speed (on all platforms) is great!
The 'web page as application' feature is kind of neat too, I keep a link to gmail.

However, Firefox's add-on system is still a must have feature, and it has better web page compatibility than chrome in my experience. Too bad it's dog slow, especially on Linux.
Internet Explorer has few redeeming values, other than being a functional web browser made by Microsoft.

I used to keep Opera on a thumb drive to use on other computers, but that browser has really fallen behind the competition in speed, and I usually keep an Ubuntu LiveUSB drive on me so I'll just reboot into that if the option is available.

I recently started doing some Javascript programming.

My browser is Firefox + Adblock.

The game I wrote ran pretty terrible in pure JS; using the Canvas improved performance.

For grins, I downloaded Chrome and ran the game... holy toledo. Chrome is significantly faster for JS ( at least with the game I wrote.)

I want to spend time with Chrome. Or Safari. Or IE8.

But I am so married to Adblock ( and XMarks and ForecastFox. )

I keep hearing how there are solutions for Chrome or IE for blocking ads, but the more I drill down for details, the more I hear they are not as effective nor seamless as FF+Adblock.

Maybe I should say my browser is AdBlock.

I've done the same. FF has been incredibly slow lately and it only runs in 1 thread. Opening one of the tabs to a page with a lot of flash and badly written garbage is enough to crash the entire browser whereas Chrome only crashes that tab.

Each browser has its strong points so I keep several installed.
Firefox - download videos with the DownloadHelper plugin
Chrome - everything else
Opera - was my main browser before using Chrome

IE is not bad, but I avoid it simply because it's the most popular. If an exploit exists, it's going to be targeted toward IE first. So far Chrome seems 100% compatible with serious business pages like banking, my phone company, newegg, etc. Opera has had a few compatibility issues in the past, especially with pages written with ASP instead of PHP.
