And I'm still a bit unclear on this concept of "fleetsaving." That sounds like you're just moving your fleet so it doesn't get targeted. But doesn't that leave your planet (and resources) completely undefended?

well, the way you can help someone is, attack someone that's attacking them. when that player sees that they are getting attacked, hopefuly they will pull back their fleet to defend their resources.

fleetsaving: you put all your resources in your cargo ships, then send them away along with your attack ships, when the attack is over, you can call them back and have your resources back. at the same time, the attacker goes back home empty handed :D

this leaves your planet unprotected (unless you have built some sort of defense), but what do you have to lose when you have no resources on the planet? :) he cannot destroy your buildings or research, so its a pointless war and most likely he'll pull back his attacking fleet :p

But can you do that in the process of being attacked? Or is that something you do if you think you are about to be attacked?

Because even though you send your resources out you'll continue to produce them and maybe you get attacked later after you are offline and accumulated a ton of stuff for them to pilfer

BTW when there is ship combat is it totally automatic or is there any manual process invovled? IOW, is there any benefit to you actually being online when someone attacks you and you leave ships for defense? In terms of the combat itself...

edit2: how do I send messages to you people like you are sending to me?

yes, that's your position :)

to send a message, click on "Alliance" and then click "Send Circular Mail" :)

OK thanks, but I don't see that "Send circular mail" option...

when I click "Alliances" under the same menu with Overview, Buildings, Resources I'm taken to a page which show the alliance's tag, name, how many members, my rank, etc...

The only clickable place on the table is a button labelled "go" under "Leave this alliance". Nothing indicating sending messages :(

well, that's what the $3.99 commander thing is good for... i know that only about 1% of the players use it, but one of the advantages it gives is you can queue buildings, so they start building after one ends. that way you don't accumulate much resources.

the ship combat it automatic, when you click on each defensive and offensive unit, it gives you their shield and attacking powers, you can calculate the impact, or you can use Speedism to simulate outcomes of battles. Google "ogame+speedism". :)

i am on level 6 rocket silo in the turkish ogame and it costs freakin 1,280,000 Metal to upgrade to the next level... :)

anyways, rocket silos are necessary later on when you have a lot of resources. at level 2, you can build Anti-ballistic Missiles and at level 4, Interplanetary missiles. Each anti-ballistic missile intercepts a interplanetary missile. so lets say someone attacked you with 10 interplanetary missiles, you'd need 10 anti-ballistic or he can take out 600 missile launchers with just 1 interplanetary missiles :p with interplanetary missiles, you attack someone, than send your fleet because defense structures destroyed by interplanetary missiles cannot deactivate and repair themselves. so onece they are gone, they are gone for good...

its quite obvious this is a game that you start and then come back every so many days to build new things as it takes forever to get enough resources to do anything.

well, when you do smart choices when attacking others, you don't need to wait a few days as you'll be stealing their resources :p

right now, i produce about 4000 metals/hour (96,000 per day) and then i raid people and usually get about 200,000 a day from other people :)

how soon would you recommend doing a raid? Like, what kind of fleet minimum would you suggest for doing a raid on someone else at your level

certaintly takes a while doesn't it? It's cool though, as I probably won't play it at the weekend as I'll see my gf, so monday at work I'll have a nice resource stash. I normally set off a long build before I leave for work, so it's done when i get there. :)

and how long have you been playing?
i can't even build a shipyard yet, so raiding is out of the question at this point.

It takes a while to get everything going. After about 4 days of building up, you can start to think about attacking and other stuff.

Ok for all the starting players, heres the usual order for buildings: metal solar metal metal solar crystal solar metal... once you hit the 48-56hr mark, make a deuterium synthyser.

well, depends, i suggest sending espionage probes and if the counter-espionage chance is 0% and shows you all the defense, I just recommend attacking with whatever can take out the defense. for example, if he has 5 missile launchers, and you send 10 light fighters, you'll win (assuming all weapon and armour technologies are at the same level) ...

still, use a battle simulator such as Speedism
