I live in a city with 2 million people. My letter will be nothing more than an afterthought once the ticket is dismissed.

you guys need to cool it with the 'incompetent' bs.

a. being unable or legally unqualified to perform specified acts or to be held legally responsible for such acts.
b. inadmissible, as evidence.

5. Law. a person lacking power to act with legal effectiveness.

A vehicle simply needs two brake lights, that is the statute. Any additional brake lights are for decoration and backup.

I hope everyone appreciates how I put myself out there so that when YOU guys get pulled over by a cop, you can stick it to them with statute 316.22. Make sure to make a copy and stick it in your glove compartment should this ever happen to you (assuming you live in Florida)

CasioTech can be as internet badass as he wants - after all, his girlfriend got the ticket, he signed the letter with his girlfriend's name, his girlfriend will be the one who has to go to court, and his girlfriend will be the one to catch any repercussions from it all - not him.

Dude I got a ticket for having ALL of my brake lights non-working.
However, with my terrible luck, I also didn't have my license or insurance (didn't have wallet) when I was pulled over.
I got lucky (good luck this time) thought because the cop was REAL COOL about it and just gave me a fix-it ticket for the lights.
The cop believed the info I provided that matched up in the police car's computer (memorize your Driver's License #!).
But he was also concerned and just told me to drive safe / carefully on the way home.

It turned out that a fuse broke and caused all my brake lights to go out. It ended up costing $10 for the fix-it ticket and a short trip to the court.
True story, even if you do read the 1st letter of the 1st 5 sentences above :p

Are you mad? CasioTech threads are one of the highlights of my day. I could've just had my face kicked in by a horse (and I'm not entirely sure I haven't), but reading a CasioTech thread makes me realize, "Well, it could always be worse." And that e-mail? Hoo-boy, that's fantastic! Now I have a form letter I can use whenever I need to respond to the police or a court inquiry. Actually, I did just get a summons for jury duty... Sounds like I've got an e-mail to write!

Perhaps Casio should apply to take this matter to Judge Mathis? He'll be sure to lay the smack-down on the incompetent officer that has made Daniel's life such a miserable wreck.

And we would all get to see that smack-down.

Thank you,

Amazing. I'm not even a cop, and yet just from reading that letter I have a strong desire to hit you a few times with an overjuiced, non-regulation taser.

Crappy ticket. It'll get dismissed. GET OVER YOURSELF. Besides, it wouldn't go on your record as it's a non-moving violation.

you might want to go back and read my original post. You are mis-interpreting the statute.
Older cars made before the third brake light became mandatory only had 2 brake lights. Newer cars obviously have 3 lights. They can't require a car built with only 2 brake lights to have 3 like new cars (i.e. all cars must have 3 brake lamps). So they didn't write the statute that way. They don't write two specifications such as: "if your car has two brake lights then you must have two brake lights, if your car has 3 brake lights you must have three brake lights." They just write it as "2 or more" indicating that your car must be equipped with as many brake lights as the manufacturer equipped it with. The 316.610 section listed by Odin requires all of those lights to be working. Showing a cop section 316.222 isn't going to deter him from writing the cite.

Raduque: Don't know for certain what the law is about aftermarket bumpers without mounting holes, but if it is anything like the rules covering exhausts/mufflers you are out of luck. You aren't allowed to modify your exhaust system such that it falls out of the mandated/legal specs. Aftermarket manufacturers can make all kinds of stuff that isn't legal to use but is legal to sell. So if you buy that extra sweet sounding chrome plated catalytic converter and pipes, it's usually not legal to drive around with it mounted if it makes the car louder than allowed. So a bumper that doesn't comply with the law is probably not going to be looked to kindly upon by a traffic court judge. Most people get away with this stuff because most beat patrol officers aren't familiar with all the codes. But if you come across a motorcycle/traffic control officer working a cruising abatement program, he can write you up a list a mile long of everything wrong with your car.

CasioTech...another moronic thread of the year by him. I like how the judge or police officer will love the words "incompetent officer" right there in the letter...how professional.

If you weren't such a dumbass, you would go to court, say you had it fixed, show him a receipt of a bulb purchase, and the judge would dismiss that ticket 99.9% of the time. (It's hard to know when you have a bulb that's burned out) Instead, you're going to make things worse by acting like a total tool.

And I call shens that you have a girlfriend...what poor dumbass would put up with your sh!t?

Any additional brake lights are for decoration and backup.

That's not the interpetation of the Officer and it remains to be seen if a Judge will overturn the judgement of the officer.

Update this thread after the court appearance.

I want pictures of receipts or documents too, so he won't BS us saying he won and told them off.

Yup. CT likes to be prodded with "overjuiced" things.

depends how you talk to the officer. ive both been given a warning as well as a ticket. when i got the ticket i was being a jackass to the cop about it.

Why are you asking us? I thought you already got out of the speeding in a school zone ticket. :p
