In terms of performance, probably the ULV chip, which is 1ghz I believe.

PS Plat, the closest I can get to that, which is adding the Wifi card and extrapolating the memory cost(a 512MB config isn't availible) puts the TiBook at $1799

so i paid about $400 for a touch screen and tablet capabilities huh?

well, i had to have it for demo purposes.

i do believe that the toshiba is smaller and lighter than the apple tho not as visually appealing.

Well no, you didn't pay for just touch/table capabilites. The Toshiba is faster than the TiBook, and it is lighter(although that is a somewhat unbalenced comparison, since the Toshiba lacks an internal optical drive). In reality, you're mainly paying for the luxury(and R&D) of the machine being so small.

How is the battery life of P'book? If I get a laptop I want to run it as long as possible on its battery, otherwise it defeats the point of having a portable computer IMO.

initially i thought that not having the optical drive internally would be a real bummer, but i'm finding that my 256 mb USB key works well for installing most of my programs.

this is the smallest laptop i've ever owned. :)

obviously i'm pretty happy with this thing.

The 4-5 hour estimate seems to be pretty dead-on as long as you use the default "battery life" power settings and are puttering around. Heavy use of the CPU, HD, graphics chip, Wifi, etc all decrease that time though.

Yup.

Basically the times that are given are the times that you wordprocess with it. Very little cpu is used. Maybe some music also and some typing and office apps. Nothing intensive at all. The higher the cpu% used the faster the battery is being used. You certainly will not be playing any film for 4-5hrs.........on ANY estimated time given for a laptop..........

Everyone talking about how great Powerbooks are makes me even more excited to get my 12" PB. Luckily I'm a student so it's $200 off, then once I ad in that iPod I'll get another $200 back.

Personally after battling with my desktop PC I want a laptop to be as hassle free as possible, and all I really need it for is music, internet, papers, and occassional graphic work and the Apples do just that.

So he paid $2100 for the laptop, still a total ripoff considering the ~$600 deals lately.

If you would have built your own computer with that money, you could of had...

Pentium 3.06 with 800 FSB
Lian-Li PC65
Dell 1800FP LCD
Cosair 512MB DDR PC3200
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
WD 200GB HD
Klipsch 2.1 Speaker with sub

Apple haters are just ludicrous! To me personally part fo the funny of owning a desktop PC is being able to tinker with its insides and upgrade and experiment with new hard configurations, and since about the only thing you can tinker with in a laptop is the ram, then why bother is a Windows format? All the fun is gone.

I think the best are the MacHaters who are running YzDock and all that stuff to make their desktop look more like OS X.
