So I went to Epcot Center in Disneyworld. They have a "food and beer" from around the world section. They actually fly in people (I think students mainly) from the particular countries to work in the booths, etc. for those countries. So for the British section they have British people working there, French section they have French people working there, etc.

Well, in the British section I got the fish and chips, thinking that since the Brits have had them for hundreds of years they HAD to be good.

I tell you what, I have never had more bland, tasteless fish in my entire life. It was like they not only used no spice, including salt and pepper, but specifically picked out the least tasty fish they could fine. It was a far, far cry from awesome (and cheap) fish and chip places in the U.S. Long John Silvers fish and chips absolutely, positively DESTROY British fish and chips.

Don't bother eating British fish and chips. It will be a proper waste of a meal...

Unless they flew the fish and other ingredient in from Britain, you had British Style Fish and Chips.

Edit: Also: Theme Park British Style Fish and Chips. I bet the bar is so low for those they could put a sign over Long John Silver's and people would pay $17 a basket.

Edit Edit: I've been to a very authentic British Style Pub that served British Style Fish and Chips. They were extremely very yummy, crispy, and delicious.

going to an International food and wine festival and choosing British fish and chips is a fail...unless you are pairing it with a yard of ale.

(I've had the Fish and Chips at Epcot's Rose and Crown, I liked them more than Long John Silvers, but I wouldn't be eating there during Food and Wine)

Hey now, maybe the OP really likes the institutional shapes of Long John Silver's

Hmmm. I guess their famous reserve extends to their food. My grandmother was English so my mom still has bland tastes.

Damn, I wish we had a Long John Silver's in this town. We have a million freaking restaurants and that is the only fast food I miss. Nothing better when you have a hangover. Hell, it makes a pretty good excuse for getting the hangover in the first place.

We had a native Brit who opened a fish & chips place in town a few years back. Wasn't bad, but it was pricey for french fries and battered fish. They did OK, not great. He quickly got tired of the restaurant business and it closed after a couple of years. We get a lot of those - engineers and college profs who open restaurants. The ones who have no clue what they're doing go out of business in a few months, and the ones who are successful soon learn that it's a buttload of hard work.

Hold on. You mean British food is no good??

Next you'll be telling me that the Brits don't have top of the line orthodontics!

Not sure what you were expecting from an amusement park. I can assure you you can find much better fish and chips in England although Belgium had the best fish and chips I've ever had

spotted dick, you say?

Sounds like an STD to me

Honestly, street fish and chips in London are pretty bland. We're used to beer batter or lots of seasoning on fish in the US. In Britain, it's pretty much "egg, flour, milk, and here you go mate!"

I love fish and chips but the fish has to be halibut not haddock or cod or anything else.

you have to be so American to start judging food based upon an experience at a generic amusement park. oye.
