lol. Once again, QueBert the fool enters a thread and immediately projectile vomits his stupidity on everyone and everything in sight. It is useless trying to avoid it. QueBert is completely satisfied by his own mediocrity, and thinks everyone who tries to do something extraordinary is an idiot. QueBert, you truly are the fool of fools. Everyone knows this.

He made it so this is some amazing, hugely important event. If he had been eaten by Piranhas he'd be a Darwin award winner. The fact that wanting to do this made him a Darwin candidate, I feel even though he didn't die he's still a moron.

Wanting to do something that no one else has done makes him a moron? It's one of the better aspects of the human spirit. I hardly think taking up a challenge like this is equivalent with the Darwin award winners

bah, I did that once and just didn't tell anyone about it.

On a serious note, I wonder if that has ever happened... what if someone did the same and just didn't seek fame for it. Makes you think about what it takes to start something like this... whoring up the publicity first. We all know about the little girls on sailboats. But hey, at least we heard a few sentences about the amazon destruction here. Great personal feat nonetheless.

Nobody knew what was up there, it's not like we don't know what's at the end of the Amazon river. I'm not saying Amundsen is a smart man for doing what he did. But at least he DISCOVERED something (that nothing was up there, but something) This Brit discovered jack shit

So by your statement it's useless to do something unless you discover something?

So people who sail around the world or people who walk through continents are all idiots?

They don't discover anything new they simply do it because it's difficult and a challenge. I feel sorry for you if you have no notion of why people do these things. You must have very little drive?

It's called a "challenge". You know what mountain climbers do when they try scaling the tallest mountains? They sure as heck weren't researching cancer treatments up there.

:) ha ha ha. That really is a standard British comprehension of geography. They have none. Most of them think that it takes about 1 hour, tops, to get to california from new york.

Oh well, at least he can go back and tell his mates "Hey, the amazon is FREAKING HUGE".

Haha, are you serious or do you just have a chip on your shoulder? It's common knowledge that most USA residents don't even know where Canada is.

Quebert won't ever take a risk or do anything fun in his life. He's content living the suburban dream, and anyone who doesn't conform to suburbia is a moron.

I wasn't commenting on the US citizens geography concepts (many of them can't even find their own state on the map). Just the fact that most people from britain have no concept of size.

Why is that?

I don't know why it is, it just is. From what I've heard, it is pretty common for other island nations as well. They tend to think that everything is the same size as the nation that they live in. So if it takes 6 hours to travel across your nation, it must take 6 hours to travel across every nation.

So what you're saying is you are just making it up, no basis in fact?

I had to wade through a 1-4ft deep stream for a mile a few weeks back and wanted to shoot myself. Good for him.

LOL at all the internet jocks coming out saying this guy is a moron. Just because you are too lazy or lack any type of once in a life time experience does not make this guy a moron. What he did was cool and never done before. That is it. If he enjoyed himself that is all that matters. It is one heck of a story to tell your friends and family though.

I saw bravo to this guy no matter what his reasons were.

What do you want from me? A scientific study? No, I have not conducted a scientific study on the geographical understanding of the british. I base my opinion, right or wrong, on my personal experience (I lived in england for 2 years) along with the personal opinion of those that surrounded me.

I'm not just "making it up", I have had personal anecdotal evidence to support it. However, that being said, I don't have a hard set of data to back up my claim.

I think some of this has to be made up, he said he was captured by Indian tribes, yet everything I've read about the tribes along the Amazon is most have little to no contact with outside people and don't speak a known language. Yet, one captures him and they radio to the next to ask if he can pass thru. How exactly did he talk to them? Sounds like a bullshit drinking buddy story to me.

Little if any of what you actually know is based on fact....you really need to understand that the world according to you is a fictional mental dellusion!
Grow up!!

This is ATOT. You don't have the right to disagree with anyone until you have at least 3 peer reviewed studies to back up your opinion. Otherwise you're just a moron. Pretty sure it's spelled out in the forum guidelines. :)

I think QueBert is right in that if the guy failed, he would have made the Darwin awards, or at least we would think that he was a moron. But, he made it, and that's impressive to say the least.

Would I do that? No; doing something because of a dare or for "the challenge" is not sufficient motivation for me. But, nice job British guy!
