In my experience with both shots in the shoulder and quick-fix options, I would have done the same. I got an MRI with contrast where they had to inject contrast ink into my glenoid. It was uncomfortable to say the least. On top of that, if it's just inflammation, the NSAID will take care of it soon. Cortisone shots can be really helpful, but seems unnecessary in your situation. Just be patient, ice it whenever you feel any aching, and keep it light in the upper body for a week. See how it goes from there.

Oh, I also wanted to mention that I did my first split similar to your's today. I practiced my power clean (not ready for the full squat clean quite yet) with a 3x5, then did today's CFFB workout with 1x BW and burpees instead of pullups since my gym has no pullup bar with grip. The grips will tear my skin in a lil over 20 pullups every time. I liked it though. I got stuff done, got my ass kicked, and also got to work on my L-sit. We'll see how it goes, but we both know it's gonna improve my general fitness quite a bit. Thanks for the idea

I believe it was called Mobic, but doctor's prescriptions are always tough to read

Nice! I've definitely had good success with this hybrid approach in just about all areas (except running, though I think that's a technique issue) and really enjoy the format of the workouts. Just be aware that it is a lot to recover from, so work your way into it gradually.

I've realized that already. I biked to campus, lifted, and biked back later. The bike ride home hurt pretty good. I'm gonna take a contrast shower, take my fish oil pills, and hope I don't hate myself tomorrow.

Strength/Power

Power clean: 135x3, 185x3, 205x3, 225x3, 225x3, 225x3

While looking back through my workout journal, it occurred to me that I had been doing WAY too many singles in my o-lift training, which is not very conducive to developing proper form. Therefore, I'm going back to basics and doing triples on my cleans and snatches and going to try to add 5lbs each week. 225 felt ok today, though I'm still not happy with my starting position. Hopefully more practice will help.

This workout is tougher than it looks and my power snatch form really fell apart towards the end.

Friday, November 6

Rest day.

I weighed in at 195.0lbs last night after dinner and although it isn't my normal weigh in time (right after waking up), it's still alarmingly high. I think a big factor in this is the food situation at my new job, where we have catered lunch every day and absurd amount of food (not just snacks) available all the time. I think I need to dust off my thedailyplate.com account and reel things in a bit to get back into the 180-185 range.

Saturday, November 7

Sick day. Came down with a fever yesterday and still feel like crap today. I literally can't remember the last time I was sick - it has been at least 8 years - and this one really caught me by surprise. My throat hurts, I have a headache, some of my joints/muscles are achy, I have a painful cough and am spitting up dark yellow phlem. Ugh.

Sick day 2. I still feel like crap and keep alternating between chills and overheating. I have no appetite, my throat hurts and my head feels fuzzy. Even my joints hurt (knees, elbows, shoulders, fingers), which really makes me feel like an old man.

Monday, November 9

Sick day 3. Sleeping last night was an interesting experience: it started with a falling dream where I struck out with both arms extremely violently to brace myself. The good news was that I was facing away from my girlfriend and didn't hit her. The bad news was that it hurt like hell in my injured shoulder. After that, I spent a few hours alternating between sweating profusely and freezing my ass off. I woke up this morning to find the blankets on the floor, my sheets mostly pulled off the bed, and my pillow case no longer on the pillow. I dunno how my poor gf puts up with me

At any rate, I felt much better today: no more fever or joint pain, just a slightly sore throat, some coughing and plenty of hacking up yellow stuff.

In related news, it looks like you'll be down to 180-185 in no time!

You ain't kidding. I weighed in at 189 this morning, 6 lbs lighter than Friday. I'm sure some of it is from the water weight lost by sweating, but the last 3 days I've been drinking fluids non-stop and not eating much, so I'm sure some of it is muscle/fat as well.

Can you do small sets of pushups and air squats at home or at work? You really don't need the crud in your lungs anyway. You'll be doing them favor by coughing it out!

I've had the same shoulder issue since like september. Tried avoiding all kinds press work with that arm. Starting to work my way back into it this past week. Feels much better.

I've used this with some success in the past and I'm going to get back on it regularly.

Got up early this morning so I could sneak out for an hour and hit the gym. After 1.5+ weeks off, everything felt rusty and my squat form wasn't quite perfect. Hopefully, I'll get back to normal this week and get all 5 reps of 355 next Saturday.

Edit ---> forgot to mention that I ran in the parking lot outside CF sunnyvale. Each lap is 404m and it takes about 35m to get to it from the gym, so I actually run ~475m per round.

I felt like a fat kid today as I still have a bit of a cough and plenty of phlegm from being sick and this lung buster of a workout really brought some of that out. I had to go very slowly on the burpees because my shoulder is still not 100%, but good enough to handle controlled and careful push-ups. OH press is still out of the question. I'm not happy with this progress, so I might schedule a cortisone shot for next week.

Deadlift: 135x5, 225x5, 315x3, 365x1, 395x1, 420x2, 405x1, 315x3

Snuck out again early in the morning to get a workout in. My legs were damn sore from yesterday's squatting and my technique was rusty, so deadlifting didn't go too well. I got 2 reps of 420 again, but the bar speed was slow and my back was so fatigued I didn't even bother trying for a 3rd rep. Hopefully I'll get it next week.

Ran in the parking lot outside CF Sunnyvale, which is 35m from the gym itself and about 404m per lap, so each round was about 475m of running.

Round 1: 34
Round 2: 22
Round 3: 20
Round 4: 20
Round 5: 20
Round 6: finished the run, ran out of time before I could start pull-ups

Total distance: ~1.75 miles (ties PR)
Total pull-ups: 116 (PR)

As each round included a longer run, this is actually the fewest rounds I've ever done for Nicole - I normally get through 7 or 8. Despite that, the total distance was just about the same and I managed 16 more pull-ups in today's workout than in my previous PR, a clear sign that my pull-up abilities have increased. I had actually be hoping for 40 on the first round, but my grip was fatigued from deadlifts and gave out early.

Rest day. Crazy sore. Kind of unfair that after working out very consistently for months, missing just 1.5 weeks increases the soreness factor by that much.
