Apparently he doesn't earn that honor until he is sentenced. Therefore it is possible that he could win his seat, be sentenced and therefore resign his seat allow the Gov. to replace him.

The guy should be gone from office no matter what.

I wouldn't put it past Alaska to re-elect the guy but the ads could be brutal showing a conviction, whether or not the Fox legal guy agrees with it or not.

So we were told that Gov. Palin stands up to her party against earmarks, for reform, and against corruption? Well Ted Stevens is the king of earmarks, an opponent to reform, and has now been convicted for corruption. He is the embodiment of the "old boys club" in Alaska. But apparently, because he has an (R) next to his name, Sarah might still vote for him. So much for "the original mavericks". What a joke.

Or, give the seat to a more populated state.

There is such a thing a the Constitution.

Designed to protect against what you desire; punishing the less populous states and letting the big ones run roughshod over the smaller ones.

Minor detail, it seems by current standards.

It sounds like they want to secede anyway.

Oh my God DrPizza, now there is a totally nauseating scenario I did not anticipate.
You have soured me on Pizzas for life.

But as I said, this whole thing is pregnant with scenarios, this is just round one, and now we must wait for the evil empire of Stevens&sons to strike back. Seward's folly will rise again. I think Russia skinned us on the deal.

Well this just in from yahoo news, Stevens is still going to run for reelection.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/200...K4vNz1HnoZxAb1S1us0NUE

Not sure if I have to comment as a non OP, but it now narrows the range of future scenarios. Round two may be now up to the Alaska electorate, If Stevens loses his reelection bid, he does become a somewhat irrelevant past figure, and the stakes becomes saving his name.

Well I think that any elected official convicted of crimes while in office should at least be suspended or in some type of administrative leave while the appeals process is underway. He most certainly shouldn't be allowed to run for reelection. His actions are damaging to the republican party at a time when they really didn't need anything else.

What I find funny and sad is if he was joe blow off the street he could not vote. Yet as a seated senator he can keep his office/job and also run for re-election.

As a Fed Gov worker I would lose my job if it was me.
