Yet again the media will cover this, providing basis for attention seeking idiots doing this in the future. For fucks sake, STOP GIVING THIS SHIT AIRTIME!

This is one topic they don't need to give airplay on. It's just giving planting the seed in the minds of future nutjobs that if you too do something insane, you can get your attention/last point made. The media is going to get the public attention at the expense of the public getting the attention of a future nut. This is one of those times Media needs to take the attention loss for the public good. But we know how many scruples media has - zero - so that's not going to happen.

Capitalism at it's finest. There's a market and the media companies are filling the desires of that market. "If it bleeds, it leads" is simply good business sense. The public loves it's 'moral panics' and it's been that way as long as there's been a 'public'.

I know, it just sucks there aren't more responsible people in control of media. I can understand the wild west of internet based media, but the large majors ought to have some kind of gentleman's agreement on this.

The news reported this was a 58 year old white man, does anyone know if this was a predominately black movie theater? I am wonder if this was another racist going on a killing spree.

Initial word I read was that the shooter was in a dispute with his ex. If that is the case, you can guess where it went from there.

Business-wise they'd be cutting their own throats and they're not going to do that. This is the media. It's what it does. The (majority of the) public likes/wants what it's getting. Don't be upset at the media for doing what it's supposed to do, make money by providing a market what it wants in the way of a product.

As I said before, the public loves it's moral panics and the media is there to help them out with that.

Too bad the theater is a Gun Free Zone (tm).

Too bad that even if gun free zones didn't exist no private theater chain would allow them. Too bad you'd then be one of those guys who picks and chooses when he agrees with a business's right to serve who they want. There is a word for that...

This shooter would be a hero to the nra, since, after all, "the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun."

"You can't change the second amendment!!"

Yes you can, it's an amendment.

Yes it can be changed however, I don't think the criteria to do so would be attained anytime soon.

The Constitution provides that an amendment may be proposed either by the Congress with a two-thirds majority vote in both the House of Representatives and the Senate or by a constitutional convention called for by two-thirds of the State legislatures

Those that place the 2nd amendment are the ones that need to come up with solutions. So far it seems they never offer any and only have excuses why nothing can or should be done.

When we have colleges with a rape problem we look to them to find a solution.
When the military has the same issue we look to them to fix the issue.

When we have a spousal abuse issue in sports we expect the sport to address the issue.

But mass shootings? Don't look at those who would kill for their right, it's not their problem. They'll be the first to complain when people act because they've had enough though!

Gun rights advocates, HANDLE YOUR SHIT! or someone who doesn't share your views will!

There are means in place to prevent people from buying firearms. Had the state of South Carolina done their job and informed the FBI so the NICS database could have been updated Dylann Roof wouldn't have been able to purchase the handgun he used.

The NICS could be used to prevent people who have mental issues from purchasing guns as well. The only problem is doctors do not inform the FBI of their patients status, I suspect they are prevented from doing such by privacy laws in place.

Believe it or not, I get what your saying and in principle don't have an issue with it. The problem is that any solution offered by the 'gun people' will be completely unacceptable to the anti-gun crowd as the only solution to many in the anti-gun crowd is 'no guns for the private sector -period'.

I honestly don't know of any way to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill or people that have a high probability of going off. Any method put in place would be a ripe target for abuse. Look how our rights are bit by bit being eroded due to the Patriot Act and all the other measure to allegedly protect us from terrorism. And don't go blaming just the stupid party for this; your precious dems are every bit as culpable.

My prayers and thoughts go out to the families and friends of the victims. What a sad sad incident.... my mom was good acquaintances with one of the people killed. RIP
