More than that.

When you disband a military that was used to getting income from working as an armed unit without taking their guns away like the Bush Administration did in 2004, what do you think would happen with the people who are armed with guns and have military training?

Would they just become farmers?

Would they go to school?

And especially they had power under Saddam and it was taken away by force.

That builds resentment and they already have arms and training.

Really what do you think would happen when you combine these factors??

By your logic I guess no military action can ever be taken against an armed adversary unless you plan to kill everyone after they surrender.

What you do is you commit to dealing with the aftermath as an expected part of war before you go to war. Military commanders and analyst and even Iraqi officials warned that it would happen as soon as the peace-keeping foreign soldiers left. They were told to leave anyway. Politics.

If anything my guess is that the Jihadists in Sinai have been fighting the government for some time, and only recently pledged allegiance to ISIS.

According to wiki they pledged a year this month.

Media is carrying reports that a bomb in the cargo hold has been confirmed by info from black boxes.

ISIS has been operating there for some time. The Egyptian military has had a number of battles with them with hundreds being killed.

Damn shame that Obama and Clinton's backing of the Muslim Brotherhood was foiled by the Egyptian military. We could have secured another country for ISIS.

ISIS was specifically caused by the drawdown. Everyone knows this.

That is either quite ignorant or incredibly dishonest, I'm not sure which. Or did you hear that on Fox recently?

ISIS was specifically caused by Cheney, Rumsfeld and Steele, a result of them assisting Maliki and his Shi'a death squads. Camp Bucca was housing the future ISIS leaders back in 2008, years before the draw down in Iraq began.

The "Blame Obama" brigade is still in denial about Iraq, still trying to defend the Cheney admin. Still doing a piss poor job of it all too.

wish me well. Flying IAD-KWI-BAH this weekend. I'm a bit nervous to be honest with all the speculation going around. I should've probably picked a better route for a mileage run, but oh well.

Colonel Mike Steel?

James Steele, sent by Cheney and Rumsfeld to be Bremmer's... assistant.

Think of him bringing some "Reagan era know-how" to deal with a problem made worse by Bremmer giving 400,000 mostly Sunni pinkslips back in May of 2003. We let Maliki go dictator, and when Sunni were shut out of government via blockade, violence and murder, we helped Maliki death squads deal with the predictable outcome of so many being disenfranchised and oppressed along sectarian lines. Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the creator and current leader of ISIS, created this organization during his time imprisoned at our Camp Bucca, and didn't get out until 2009 IIRC.

So, naturally, thanks Obama!

So yeah, bombing confirmed. Brits got word through assets in Egypt, but wanted to wait for the black boxes to tell the story so the Russians had to wait. Boo hoo Putin, sucks when an airliner goes down and you don't get the answers you want, right? Tell that to the Dutch.

So it's official, Putin just gave Russia a bunch of dead civilians for taking Assad support to the next level. I expect efforts will be in overdrive to quash the 'cause and effect' aspect here and instead use it as a need for continued involvement abroad.

Fwiw, I though this was some good perspective on both Putin specifically and Russian thinking in general. A good, quick read https://www.thecipherbrief.com/article/russian-aggression

He just suspended flights between Russia and Egypt too.

While this smelled of a bombing all along I would have thought we would have had chemical proof of that by now. In addition, a bomb produces signature effects on nearby material which is also obvious to anyone with a background in it. Bottom line is there should be conclusive proof in the debris that confirms a bomb and it would also point to where in the aircraft and likely the size and type of the bomb used.

It's possible they have that info but haven't released it yet and if so my money is on Egypt looking to delay announcing as long as possible as tourism is a huge money maker for them.

SFO-IAH-KWI-BAH today. Got the dreaded quad S despite having TSA Pre/Global Entry. Looks like they're beefing up security.

Shoutout to SFO TSA though. I believe they contract out to an outside agency and aren't truly TSA, but they were professional, thorough and quick. I only wish I got there earlier to prepare for this so I could have a bit of lounge time before my flight. I had to run straight to my gate.
