As a raving fan of Breaking Bad, this is by far the dumbest post in the thread. Is the OP an attention whore? Maybe. Badass? No. Like he said, you've got your memes mixed up.

However, what I found disturbing is that what I accepted for the main characters in season 4 for example, I probably would have never accepted in season 1. The gradual nature of the progression over the seasons did that to me.

That is how I wish Lost had gone; the first two seasons were incredible, but then it just fell off the map. Breaking Bad is a masterpiece because:

1. It was written in a relatable way
2. They kept the quality of the show consistent
3. They wrote each character such that you could see their POV, the opposing POV, and the overall story POV, so that you understood why each character did what they did & why they felt compelled to make that choice - amazing psychological writing

For example, when Walt watches Jane die. Walt is still a "good" man at this point, but he also realizes (1) his empire is on the line, and (2) the drug dealers can kill them if he screws up, so it's his AND Jesse's lives on the line - all being compromised because Jesse is being immature & has gotten sucked back into his addictive behaviors. So letting Jane die was sort of a "greater good" decision at that point, both from a business & personal POV for Walt. Then you see the repercussions - Donald, the ATC, getting depressing & causing the plane to crash, for example - and how all of that weaves back into the main story.

I felt like Harper's Island was a good precursor to this show - one season, done very well, and finished off before it got dumb (like Lost). I don't know if we'll ever see a series as well done all series long as Breaking Bad was. As always, hats off to the crew - writers, actors, everyone.

This. I too was not hooked at all when I first watched episode 1. I stopped watching, didn't even finish watching that first episode actually. Then a long while later my brother finally convinced me to give it a shot, and I did end up watching the whole series. It IS very good. Very well done, the characters are great, the characters and story develop nicely.

People don't all have the same tastes and that's fine, but if you truly didn't like it after the first episode or two, and are still watching it now, what are you - a glutton for punishment?

I'm almost done season 2 and the show really went downhill after he blows up Tuco's place in season 1. I'm having trouble seeing how they are going to keep the show interesting for about 4 (? i forget how many season it is) more seasons. It's looking like it's just going to be a bunch of passive, agressiveness from his wife from now on since he has to lie to her and she knows he's hiding something.

I recall watching the first 2 seasons and then stopping for about a year until it finished. I liked it but it was not super compelling but once I picked it up again from season 3 onwards, it had me hooked. Luckily it was just finishing at the time so I didn't have to wait much in between episodes but I'd say stopping in season 1 doesn't give the show a whole lot of room to show you what it can do.

I've never liked Criminal Minds. To me, it's mediocre at best. Good enough to stay on TV, but never good enough to actually impress me. Or at least for the episodes I've seen, which admittedly isn't a lot... because I'm not a fan of the show.

The only thing that comes to mind right now as competitive for me is Game of Thrones and True Detective, but the latter is only one season.

I'm liking Hannibal, but I've only seen a few episodes. I also really like Orange Is The New Black, but I think Breaking Bad is a tier above.

Seasons 4 and 5 are the best seasons. They really figured out whats working and what isnt over the course of making the show. The production values go up exponentially over the course of the seasons as well. And season 5 ends up being possibly the best season of any show ever made.

So, in my opinion, you should stick it out until the show gets really good. And then after you've watched what is generally accepted to be the best season of any show ever...then let us know what you think.

I got to the whole chicken-chain-used-to-distribute drugs part of the series (season 3?) and the mega-cook, and I stopped. That is so idiotic and would get busted within a year. There were WAAAAAYYYYY too many people involved to keep a drug ring operating without getting caught.

As a tv drama about walter white, it's good. But, as a crime drama it is laughably bad. The Wire >>>>>>>>>>> Breaking Bad.

What are some examples of shows you think are "WAY better"? I have never seen a show I would say is of the same quality as BB, though the best episodes of Mad Men and The Sopranos are comparable to an average BB episode. Other than those two I haven't seen anything that even approaches BB in overall quality, including other serialized dramas that I greatly enjoy, like Justified. (I have not watched all of The Wire so can't intelligently compare it to BB, and don't really care for fantasy, so have a hard time comparing GoT to any of these other shows.)

Breaking Bad is the finest serialized drama ever created. It's really today's analogue to Shakespearean drama. I would argue there has been no finer work of art, regardless of medium, created in my lifetime. Unless one simply can't deal with the violence on the show (and I know people like that), I find it hard to understand any person of discernment not enjoying it.

Frankly I would find it hard to respect anyone who would use a world like "sucked" to describe Breaking Bad - it's like saying The Godfather "sucked." Breaking Bad is kind of like Seinfeld in that way - I just know I am not going to get along with anyone who doesn't like it.

I suppose it's possible I simply missed the episode where the greatness of Breaking Bad was subliminally beamed into my head - that could explain why I just don't like it.

Same here. It's just boring, with most characters being uninteresting.

I kept trying to watch because people keep saying it's great, but partway through season two I reached boredom overload and stopped.

I heard so much about the show, started watching it. The first couple episodes were pretty good; thought I was going to be hooked. Then, it turned into "let's watch them sit at the dinner table, not talking, for a couple of minutes." People told me that it gets better, but I had better things to do with my time than wait around for it. So, I can't speak to how well the rest of the series is, but I found myself bored by episode 4 or 5 & never watched another episode. Probably won't, either.

I think you're in a tiny minority about Seinfeld. But, I'm also a member of the minority of people who didn't like the show. They play the laugh track after every single line in that show. Occasionally, something is funny, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't funny at all. But, I think the amount of actual humor in the show is greatly over-rated, and every good joke seems to be done to death.

It's a great show, but no show is going to be for everyone. It took me three tries to get through the whole thing because while I liked the show I really didn't like some of the characters.
