Breaking Bad. Let's be honest - this is a terrible show, right?

season 3 is rather tough to get through, tbh. It lulled for several episodes and almost entirely put me off.

That was also my major criticism of the series--way too much antihero, not a single principle character worth caring about...well, for "thinking" audiences anyway. It's weird--Walter White was created and written to engender hate and dislike in the audience. You aren't supposed to like him, but "bad audience" syndrome created a fan base for this morally repugnant individual.

Probably the easiest to pull for would be Hank and Saul (Even though he is scummy, Saul is certainly likable). This is what makes season 3 (or is it 4) rough to watch--Hank spends much of that season in a very dark place and it's just very hard to stick with him.

Still, taken as a whole, it is a great series, extremely well-written and worth the ride.

For more on the "bad audience" syndrome: Fans that actually don't "get" what they are watching, but claim they do, and love it. Think: All in the Family

Are you sure you weren't watching The Bachelorette instead? If you say it fast it kind of sounds like Breaking Bad....

What are some examples of shows you think are "WAY better"? I have never seen a show I would say is of the same quality as BB, though the best episodes of Mad Men and The Sopranos are comparable to an average BB episode. Other than those two I haven't seen anything that even approaches BB in overall quality, including other serialized dramas that I greatly enjoy, like Justified. (I have not watched all of The Wire so can't intelligently compare it to BB, and don't really care for fantasy, so have a hard time comparing GoT to any of these other shows.)

You crazy, DVC! I still prefer Mad Men over BB. 😛

I think you're in a tiny minority about Seinfeld. But, I'm also a member of the minority of people who didn't like the show. They play the laugh track after every single line in that show. Occasionally, something is funny, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't funny at all. But, I think the amount of actual humor in the show is greatly over-rated, and every good joke seems to be done to death.

I didn't like breaking bad either. I only gave it 3-4 episodes. Seeing the same characters in the show constantly doing something stupid to bring "drama" doesn't appeal to me. I got the vibe that it would just be the wife and the druggy "partner" would just do it constantly through the series and I moved on. It reminded me of Weeds, but being a little darker and maybe not as retarded. Also with less hotness.

I am not a big TV watcher, but BB had me hooked after 1 show. We watched nearly every episode in the span of a week. I couldn't get enough. I must say I love Criminal Minds as well 🙂

Same.

Breaking Bad I devoured as well as true detectives and archer. Fortunately I got into these late enough that there was lots of long unbroken periods of watching to be had.

It was a good show overall, but it definitely had its fair share of lulls in the series. I've watched it all eventually and enjoyed it, but there were a couple runs where nothing happened and it was pretty boring.

I guess I'll have to buckle down and watch BB. Mad Men is my favorite, and I've heard this type of comparison so much that I might as well test it.

For anybody who did not like this show, could you please mention your favorite show? That'd give us a point of reference to judge your taste.

Honestly I don't see any show any time in next 10 years topping what breaking bad did. The final season was literally edge of the seat stuff with some episodes leaving me speechless. As far as entertainment episode to episode I'd give Game of Thrones the nod but I just don't see any series ever beating bb as a whole piece of work.

I really enjoyed the series as a whole. There were many times where it would drag badly and I struggled to keep interest. I am convinced that a lot of people confuse low dragged out actor masturbation monologues as deep acting, or they don't know wtf they're talking about and just following people who claim they do.

Tried to watch it, didn't like it at all. I get it it's popular, so is Justin Beiber and I'm not about to listen to his music because he's the top selling artist out right now.

My roommate has been stuck on season 3 for months and refuses to watch anymore. He watches Weeds too (ugh!). I told him that I refuse to be around anyone who refuses to watch that show.

Looks like I'm going to have to kill myself and by "myself" I obviously mean *him*.

Justified
Game of Thrones
Walking Dead (in a 'this aggravates me, but I'm still watching' sort of way)
I know you aren't exactly enthusiastic about that one, but something is seriously wrong if you are fed up with Breaking Bad before The Walking Dead.

I'm caught up on both and Game of Thrones. Only thing I've seen that compares to the writing quality is GoT.

Agreed on the first count - The Walking Dead has never really been anything more than an ultra-violent soap opera. I have still watched most of it, but quality wise it is a 60th percentile show. I thought the second season of Justified was great, but other than that it has been good, not great. I have only watched the first season of GoT, and it seems good but I am not really a fantasy guy, and unless you are a diehard fan it seems almost impossible to keep track of all the characters and subplots.
