The only thing I "want to hear" is undeniable medical proof either way -regardless of the outcome. Not some brain scan that says some gay dude has a predisposition to matching clothes and decor.
I don't think you're thinking about that the way she intended it. For instance, my dad... I don't want to say he hates all gay people, but I wouldn't be far off. Anyway, he doesn't want to hear that it's something that you're born gay because that challenges his belief that it's immoral.

To put it another way, let's say scientists PROVE that in 99% of cases (I don't think they could ever prove 100%), people are born gay. Most people that are currently against a homosexual lifestyle (ie. my father) would outright deny that or decide that they knew better than the scientists. Either way, the reason they do that is because they do not WANT to challenge their beliefs. They WANT to believe that people choose to be gay and they should stop doing that.

So, what I think Val is getting at (she'll have to correct me if I'm wrong) is that they would rather not challenge everyone's beliefs and constantly argue that everyone should accept them because they were born like that and there's nothing wrong with it. Instead, they just say, "Yes, it's something we chose," and try to get people to just accept them for the choices they made, right or wrong.

If you knew my family, you'd know that avoiding an argument is the LAST thing on their minds. Back to my original statement, I'll stick with believing that it's their choice based on their own admission.

Fair enough, I just wanted to clear up that it probably isn't the stupidest thing said in this thread.

Back to the topic of the book, the researchers are taking brain scans of adults, correct? Well what's to say that their brains weren't formed that way via experiences and interactions? I think you would need to show CAT scans of a large group of people, from birth to full maturity. Otherwise how can you say, "Look, the brain of this 35 year old male looks like this. Thus that is how it looked when he was 2 and he was born gay."

I believe we're all predisposed to certain activities. I'm not talking sexuality here. Some people are good at math, some people are good at playing music, some people are good at sports. Even considering similar nurtures (brothers and sisters), they will each exhibit different talents (nature.) That's pretty obvious, I think we all agree to that. Well, why should homosexuality be any different? Statistics say that 10% of the populace are homos. I wonder what the percentages are for people who are good at sports, or math, or art? Are 10% of the people considered "good" at sports? Is 10% of the population "good" at art? I don't really know, I think it'd be an interesting comparison.

All that being said, those parts just aren't made for that! :p

I have to laugh at this....

I'm just good at bringing up good controversial topics. I like to get people to think, and talk about things other than the norm I guess. Attention whore, or old whore, or whatever, makes no difference to me. At least I'm getting all you to discuss things. I thinks it's cool.

Got a couple of quotes for ya, that really fit right in with this whole homosexuality debate...

"Fear is a disease that eats away at logic and makes man inhuman." By Marian Anderson

"You lose a lot of time, hating people." By Marion Anderson

From my own experience and knowing many people, friends who are gay, I have heard their stories. Their life experiences, growing up, having to finally confront their families. Their families reactions... all very different reactions. But I do know this, some were compelled to just tell their families what they only wanted to hear just to make their family feel more comfortable and with the hopes that they would not be totally rejected. Nik just keep that in mind.
