Brag when you've done something impressive with it. 🙂

Hahahah... good point!

With that said... nice setup and holy crap you're dropping some serious coin on gear! Are you planning on trying to make some money in photography? For just amateur photography that's an insane amount to spend.

Right now with work and school i'v been doing some commercial photography work on the side. Just got a small job with a sorority to shoot some advertisements. I'm super excited 😀

Have you made enough from photography to pay off all your gear? That's my general rule.

It's really to get all caught up in the gear, regardless of whether you're just starting out or have been shooting for a while. I know a guy who has a D3s and Nikon's Holy Trinity, but he can't take a good picture if his life depended on it. At the end of the day, just remember that it's not about the gear, but rather what you can do with it.

My rule is that money made from photography goes back into photography.
I don't count on photography money to pay for living expenses.

That's definately a shame. I just bought a 400 2.8 and a 1.4 TC. Here's a shot I took yesterday. Still having to get used to shooting near 600mm.

@finbarqs Beautiful shots! Love the Burro (sp?) for the mood and perspective, and the others are also very pleasing.

Those are some darn nice pics man! Good job!

havent purchased camera gear since september 2011.... lol

thinking of trading my Rebel for a 5D3 when it hits, but the more I think about it, the less it makes sense... that is if I want to keep my 7D. Sounds like my 11-16mm and 17-55mm setup is half wrecked with a 5D3. Maybe I'll keep the 7D for telephoto or UWA....

thanks guys! I've been through several cameras, (I still have a nikon FE 35mm) so I kind of know nikon and canon systems! (and Panasonic/Leica's).

With film, I primarily shoot Velvia 100, Ektachrome 100, and astia.

EDIT: I forgot to brag. I preordered the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 AF-S lens. Hoot Hoot. $220

thinking about howmuch my photography equipment costs... it's at least 5k!
5D Mark 2 = 3k (got it when first released)
24-70 f/2.8L = 1k
17-40 f/4L = 700
70-200 f/2.8L IS II = 2.5k
marumi filter = 100 bucks
pocket wizards = 150+250 = 400 bucks
580 ex II = 450 bucks
tripod setup = 250
memory cards = 350 (got the 8GB 300x when it was 150, 16gb extreme 4 = 200)
light meter = 300 (with the 50 dollar attachment)
camera bag = 100 (from samy's)
hood eye = 40
and giottos LCD protector = 40

grand total of: >9K of equipment!

What?!?! No speedlight? BTW, I would have looked into getting a better tripod like a Gitzo or Really Right Stuff. You could still splurge a bit more and get a Gitzo monopod and a RRS monopod head.

BTW, nice score on the camera gear and enjoy! All the best.

I looked into gitzo, but I didn't like the fact that Gitzo's legs extensions are threaded. I like my tripod to be quick! If anything, would've gone manfrotto carbon fiber. But anyways, they're the same company! Kind of like when manfrotto was also bogen, gitzo is the new bogen!

I have a speedlight. 580ex II. Looked into quantum flashes, but the battery alone scared me off!
