Brag:
Bought in on the OD Emachines d6405 clearance deal last week (AMD 64 3000+, 512 megs ram, DL DVD burner, 15" LCD monitor) for $350.71 otd
Sold the monitor on EBay for $155 (126 after ebay fees, paypal, and shipping)
Sold my 3 1/2 year old dell on craigslist for $250 (after taking out my geforce4 and putting it into my new PC, of course... I could've gotten more, but then I wouldn't have felt right.)
awaiting $50 rebate

Total cost for new PC (that SMOKES compared to my old P4-1.6): -25.29 BEFORE rebate (I don't actually have it yet.)
-75.29 AFTER rebate.

This is the second new computer I bought where I've actually been PAID to upgrade!

Moan:

I bought a Dell 1700 printer a while back becasue it was specified as supporting Postscript 3 here but I finally needed to do some proofing and it actually doesn't (only the 1700n does) and Dell won't do squat for me b/c it's past 21 days.

Brag:
Went To Compusa to buy some dvd+r's for 24.99 ... went to register and paid 4.99 +tax for 100pk of RICOHJPNR01 .... 5cents a piece.....

got one of these for a total of $5.40 from a local store. they had labeled it "defective" and told me that it wouldn't go above 800x600, however when i asked them to demo it for me it worked fine. no problems yet.

Moan: Bought a whole bunch of stuff from Geeks from the Green Light specials. Everything else worked fine, but the 128MB no-name MP3 player was defective. Constant buzzing and hum from the headphones. Sent it back for an RMA, and they were pretty fast about sending the replacement, BUT the replacement had the exact same problem. It was an open box item. I think it was a different one, not the same one I sent back, but it could've been another customer return. You'd think if it was open they could power it on and check for the same problem, but nooo. Now they're not responding to my 3 emails this week, so I'll have to call their support long-distance. I have another week or two before the credit card bill is due, and I'm thinking of disputing the charge.

I just got a pair of Ermenegildo Zegna dress shoes that were originally $425...for $80 after 2 coupons.

I was really looking for a pair of jeans, but that'll do 😀

Anyone having problems with surpluscomputers.com. I ordered 2 TV tuners from them in August and got a rec for the order, but no shipping info. Haven't recieved the merch and they ignore my emails. The retail store won't talk to me either. I won't be ordering from them again until I find out what is happening.

Well, I talked to their support on the phone after calling long distance. Turns out they sent the same one back because it "tested good". :| I sent it back (again) for a store credit, so ended up paying return shipping twice. :| I have the store credit now, but I'm having a little trouble applying it to my shopping cart. I emailed them again, but they seem to be ignoring all emails to support (except the very first one I sent).

Brag & Moan: The hdd died on my 9300 after about a month so Dell overnighted a new drive to me, got it today and to my delight it is a 100GB 7200rpm Travelstar, the dead drive is an 80GB 5400rpm Fujitsu.

Well it worked out *okay* even if I had to pay return shipping twice. Got a PS2 dancepad for $3 and an iriver IFP-180 128MB player for $22 from the Geeks Greenlight Sale.

Moan: ibuypower.com purchase

Since I purchased my computer, my experiences with ibuypower have been disappointing to say the least.

I placed the order for my computer on August 22nd, 2005. I selected the 5-10 business days, No Rush and the computer was shipped 12 business days later.

When my computer arrived on September 9th, 2005 it did not work. I plugged in my Viewsonic 191b monitor, my mx510 mouse and my logitech keyboard, powered it up and the system would not let me enter the BIOS setup. When I turned on the computer all I saw was an Asus logo. At 7:30PM I call their tech support number. I am told to leave my number and I should get a call back in a half hour. One hour later I call back and the lady on the phone tells me to wait another half hour, but I'm "next on the list" so a technician should contact me soon. I wait another hour and another. THREE HOURS and some change later Steve calls me.

I explain my situation to him and he instructs me to pop open the case. I do so and he runs down a checklist of things that should be connected to the mobo. Unfortunately, my CD Burner was not connected to a power source, and my hard drive was not connected to my mobo.

I turn my computer back on, and now the motherboard isn't recognizing my x800xl video card. Steve says he'll have ibuypower ship me out a new video card. This is on Friday, September 9th.

I call ibuypower's on site technician the following Monday. I speak with Brian who informs me the reason my video card doesn't work is because a power cable that's supposed to connect to the back of the video card is not plugged in. So Brian has me cut off all the plastic wire holders to find this socket thing that's supposed to connect to my video card. After 15 minutes of not being able to find it, I ask to speak with somebody else. Lee comes on the phone and he informs me that there is NO power cord that connects to my video card. Thanks Brian. I ask Lee to send me a new video card and I also ask for an upgrade. He declines, I accept.

I just received the new video card today, September 15th but they sent me the wrong one. Instead of sending me a sapphire x800xl they sent me a x850 pro which actually performs WORSE on benchmarks. I couldn't believe it, they actually downgraded my video card. So I install the x850 pro into the pci express slot and the mobo is still not recognizing the video card.

So I call up their tech service again and again I have to wait nearly THREE HOURS for them to call me back.

This time the technician informs me that there must be something wrong with my motherboard so he's going to order another motherboard and have a tech come to my house and install it for me. I am certainly not looking forward to this experience. I have enough trouble getting technicians on the phone; actually getting one to my house will take lord only knows how much more time.

It's been nearly a MONTH since I placed the order and I still do not have a functioning computer. The money was taken out of my account 3 days after I placed the order and I have nothing to show for it except a $1700 foot rest.

Maybe not a brag, but happy 🙂

Just bought a used PC, and I haven't bought any computer games in awhile. I go to COMPUSA to find out what looks decent, and I see Half-Life 2 Game of the Year edition and Empire Earth 2 for $19.99 each. I knew that Half-Life was supposed to be fun, and I've never tried a real RTS before, so I picked them up and brought them to the counter. They both rang up at $49.99. I told the cashier about the price and he just smiles at me and says "There's no way. We can't even get it for that price" I insist that it was on the shelf for that price (I had looked at the tags), and that there were plenty of them. We go to look, and while there are three shelves of Empire Earth 2 with a $19.99 price, it actually was Empire Earth Gold, and someone had mismarked it. Half Life 2 was actually something called Half Life Platinum 2. I pointed it out that they were shelved like that (stocked full) and wanted to know if I could get them for that price as they were advertised as such on the endcap.

He didn't think he could, but he went to speak to the general manager. He was sure that they would only be able to come up with the employee discount, but after speaking with the manager, he came out and wordlessly just rang both of them up at $19.99, but not before ripping the price tags off of the shelves 🙂

So, the guy was nice about it, and rang it up, and now I'll have to give both a try. Since I've never played either HL1 or HL2, I figure I'll play HL1 with nicer graphics first, then try HL2. From what I understand, EE2 is more complex and might take a while for me to figure out..I'll try that later!

[MOAN]

This a general purpose moan about everybody (or a business) that offers good prices on the item you are looking for to get your attention, then sticks you with unreasonably high shipping cost to recoup some of thier money.

Liberty Tech Inc near Austin, Texas does a lot of business on eBay. That's how I found them. I won a few of their auctions a few months back (like four auctions within a couple of hours of each other) for USB WiFi adapters, and other small items. I got each for the minimum bid of about $5 each, a good price. Liberty Tech Inc didn't want to combine shipping at first, and wanted to charge $11 each in shipping. I objected, and they eventually agreed to ship all for about $20 or so. I don't have the exact numbers because eBay won't let me view auctions from more than 60 days back, and my memory for those details isn't great, but it's accurate enough numbers for this example. Anyway, I got the items I wanted, at a good price, even if shipping was a bit of a rip-off.

Today, I found an old Logitech wireless keyboard receiver in my garage (forgot I even had it) and tested it with one of the newer Logitech wireless keyboards I have; it worked as good as the newer version of the receiver! I started thinking about all the cheap Logitech & Dell wireless keyboards that didn't have receivers I saw on eBay a while back, and that I could get one for this receiver. Well, Liberty Tech popped up with exactly what I wanted for $5 (by it now), but they wanted to charge $10.99 for shipping, on a used keyboard. Huh???

I wrote them this email:
Can you come down on the shipping some. $10.99 is a lot for a keyboard. If it was shipped via USPS, it would only cost about $4. If you can reduce the shipping to $6 or less, I'll take one. Please let me know. I would like to pay $10 - $11 total for the keyboard.

Their first reply:
Hi,

No. The keyboard was already cheap.

Thank You,
*randon
Liberty Tech. Inc.

My Reply:
I understand that the keyboard is cheap. The two prices are independent of each other unless you are overcharging on the shipping to make up for the low price of the keyboard, and that would hardly be honest business. All I'm asking is that you use a cheaper shipping company than whoever quoted you $10.99 for a 1 lb package. When I ship something that I sold on eBay, I charge the buyer actual shipping cost. That's all I'm asking here. What do you say?

Thier answer:
Hi,

If you do not agree with our listing, please do not buy or bid.

Thank You,
*randon
Liberty Tech. Inc.

Anyway it degraded past this point when I said:
Ha, I see that Customer Service is not very high on the priority list. Can't wait to post this in the Not-Hot Deals forum.

And they said:
Sure, go ahead man.

Thank You,
*randon
Liberty Tech. Inc.

Anyway, maybe it's just me, but overcharging on shipping to make up for a low price just sucks.

[/MOAN]

Yea that sucks man its such sh!t a lot of ebay companies do that to recoop on last revenue for cheap items, always watch the shipping.

Brag:

Got in on the office dpot $350 laptop deal, goober techie gave me an extra rebate and I can send it in cause the limit is three. 🙂

Brag - I work at Circuit City, noticed a tag on SkyFi XM Receivers marking it at $-30.04 after rebate.

No kidding, it's 19.96 minus a 50.00 mail in rebate.
No service required.

I bought 3, so hopefully in a couple months or so, I'll have made $90.00 ^_^

Moan: To fix my old Dell Dimension I had to order a replacement cable that cost $4.95. That's not too bad, but the shipping and handling for a piece of wire was $9.99.
Wee, first post.

Brag: I have my physical health.
