after letting it download new patch, install whatever.beta and then closing on me numerous times i saw this post. clicked on sc2switcher and it opened starcraft. as soon as the loading bar is complete it crashes. what the fuck??:\
 
Holy crap, this is going to take some getting used to coming from DoW2.

Have to build buildings now, lots of resources, lots of cheap fragile units, long build times, no retreating. Engagements seem to end very quickly. Maybe its because I have the match set to the highest speed? Or is it supposed to be that way?

Still seems fun, have to learn the game so I can start playing ranked matches.

A few bad things:
The camera seems to be zoomed in too close.
The graphics are worse than I thought, especially the ground texture.
Enabling 3D units portraits kills my framerate (from around 80 to like 45?).
No anti-aliasing or vsync options in the game settings.
Overlapping units are hard to pick apart.
 
I don't find the graphics bad at all. Granted, it is not the best graphics out there but still pretty good. I have everything on max settings as it looks like you do too though.
 
I have decided the placement matches needs a lot of improvement. I was put in copper the first time. This time I'm in bronze, have just played 1 guy in silver and killed him...played another in gold and beat him.

Seems like you just need to be lucky in the placement and play worse people. They make it much harder to move up leagues than just getting lucky in the 5 placement matches and get placed in a higher league.

And no I'm not saying I should be in a different league, but maybe these people shouldn't be in theirs.

I'm running the beta on W7-64, but haven't tried it since last night after the service came back up after the patch. They were implementing some other fix that said on the login screen that battle.net would be down until they got done. So at that point, with the new patch, I didn't have any problems getting to the login screen. If anything has changed, I'll let you know here in about 2-3 hours when I get off work.

I've tried graphics settings on ultra and extreme shader settings while watching replays. I think the graphics are awesome. However, with only an 8800gt I had to lower the settings for better framerates during actual gameplay.

EDIT: Although honestly, its just beta so it's not like ladder really matters too much.
 
Canceling eggs now gives you the minerals spend back and the larva. People are abusing that early by making 3 drones, canceling at last second, then using those 6 larva for 12 zerglings.

What's the benefit? They just get back what they put in?
 
Just got a legitimate beta key from the EB Games store close to my house. Now I'm not 100% sure as to where to put the key in. I'm putting it in the regular add a game tab which I think is the proper area, if it is I've tried multiple multiple times but it says my key is invalid. Since Blizzard was a bunch of goofs to the fellows at the EB games they just sent them a list of keys so they had to hand write each one. The guys who gave it to me wrote it in all caps to make it easier to understand. Are your keys in all caps or does it switch between capitols and not. Just wondering If I should waste time going back or if I'm just doing it wrong.

Nope you're doing it correctly, the guy at EB just had poor handwriting. I had the same issue with the key that got written on my receipt from Gamestop. I thought one of the characters was a 4 and kept putting it in as such. Tried it as an H instead and the key was accepted. If none of the characters looks like they're close to another character I would recommend paying a visit to that EB or giving them a call.
 
Alright thanks man. The closet thing I've got is this V that could be a J. Freakin people. But it's all caps then ?

Nevermind the "V" was a J. Friggen people. What ever shucks that I didn't try that before though. Thanks anyways man !
