I got into Beta Sunday morning but didn't get to play until yesterday evening. Personally, I don't know what to think about the game. It's not amazing looking. It's not amazing flow wise. It's not even amazing strategy wise. As someone who has played over 5000 games of Warcraft 3 and probably over 2000 games of Starcraft, I didn't really see it as the jump in games that I had hoped for. Instead I see it as Prettier SC1.

In Warcraft Three most of your focus is on a group of perhaps 12 units and heroes. You walk around with these groups and attack creeps when you aren't attacking your opponent. If you get better you can learn to deviate a little from this and do multiple things at the same time, but really the focus is on one area at a time in games.

In Starcraft 2 I feel like I'm creating a net for my opponent. I harass him from behind, I expo, I hit him with 3 units in the front. I make him chase my scout for 2 minutes. I do all these things at once. This is exactly the same thing I did in the original. It's almost as if nothing has changed.

So for the purists out there who still go back to the original when they can I believe that this is a game you will love. For me, I will enjoy the new wave of competition but the battles hold little interest. Micro is important but it is not critical like it was with Warcraft 3. I find myself not watching battles at times to work on my economy or to expo check. I rarely if ever looked away in W3...

I doubt it is fair to compare this game to Warcraft. They are designed differently even if the commands are the same. The game is fun though, and its a blast to shut down everything your opponent tries to do. I just hope I am able to dive into this game the same way I did the original and W3.

this is exactly how i felt, it feels like starcraft with war3 graphics and no heroes, which is not a bad thing, but i burnt myself out so bad on starcraft this isn't really holding my attention lol. it's fun but the same. i'm sure it will do great as all blizzard games do.
looking forward to diablo 3, now that i dont care if its the same :) nothing like co op with friends.

I have WoW, WC3, and SC all linked and I still don't have one. I doubt that affects it.

Aigomorlas got his crazy 6 core hyperthreaded 980x i7, they saw that at the top of the list and since it was probably the only one he got a key ;/ If anyone signed up with an IDT winchip or some really old unidentifiable crap they probably got handed a key as well so blizz dosent miss anything. AMD, Intel, and Unknown, all bases covered :(

Check your emails people in beta. Blizz is handing out keys to give to friends!

Just one catch...the keys seem to be broken atm. Thought maybe it was a hoax, but blue has confirmed it is legit, and they are fixing the problem.

And before anybody asks, my brother already claimed mine!

Wow, that's a pretty good idea. It will probably help 2v2s if you actually know your partner.

Sign me up for the anandtech user begging list? If you don't have a friend that will play religiously, I can assure you that I will. So if anyone out there is able and willing, I will become your permanent fanboy if you extent an invite my way. :D

Does everyone in the beta have a friend key to give away? I don't seem to be getting emails from Blizzard (found out I got beta from the b.net account page), and there wasn't any indication on my b.net account that I had one to give away that I could see.

I don;t know. I got into beta via e-mail during the first wave. I just got a Friend beta email key this morning. I'm assuming that over half of those Blizzcon keys aren't being claimed. Only 3k ppl on Bnet 2.0 and 6-7k during peak times. But that could just be the East Coast.

Can you link to wherever they confirmed the problem? I'm trading for a friend invite key, and the guy sent first, I told him I wanted to log in once to make sure everything was legit before I send my end, and everytime I try to log in it says:

"This Battle.net account does not include an associated copy of Starcraft II. Please log into Battle.net account management and add the game to your account."

The game does show up in my account though, if I can at least see Blizzard has confirmed and is working on any issues I'm gonna go ahead and send my half. Thanks.

I have 3 friends that all live in the same house that were VERY happy to get a friend key. Hopefully they get the kinks worked out soon.
