Got 'em off just before college. Had them for 2 years and they gave me some major self-consciousness issues. I will never inflict the pain of high school braces on my kids.

Yes, I had braces. I also had 4 pre-molars removed, and I think I still might need to get my wisdom teeth removed. I'll deal with a dentist visit when I can (hopefully) afford it when I (hopefully) have a nice engineering job after I'm finally done with college in May.
I figure it's my wisdom teeth doing it. They look like they're at a bit of a weird angle, and my teeth have undone a fair amount of the work done with the braces. The underbite is still gone though, so at least that's not been botched; normal bite has the top teeth in front. I had it completely reversed. Total underbite.

But yes, braces sucked. I didn't just get the chronic headaches from all the stress on my jaw - anywhere the braces rubbed against my mouth got infected, so I had open sores along most of my mouth for the entire time I had the braces in. I get mouth ulcers very easily; any small injury gets infected. I don't eat hard candy, because air bubbles in the candy will form very sharp edges as the candy dissolves. Result: small cuts, and then the ulcers that take 2 weeks to heal. Chips are also something to avoid, same reason. (Name a medicine or (useless) home remedy for these things, and I've probably tried it.)

I generally have never gotten along too well with eating.

Right now my teeth feel like I just tried to nom the hardest cock ever and failed.

then start them off with braces in middle school. as soon as their baby teeth are lost they can begin the process of orthodontics.

don't have them go through braces when they are in college. much more inconvenient for one thing.

i had them in like 6th grade, then had a palate expander and then got them again in 7/8th grade , then just had a retainer which i stopped wearing long before i was told to, no bracers from 98% of HS and college

i also had all but 2 of my baby teeth pulled out, root and all, my adult teeth would be fully in and the roots on the baby teeth wernt even starting to disolve

I had braces and they were the best thing my parents could have ever done for me. Totally worth the 1.5 years of ortho appointments, swollen gums and head-gear at night.

I wasn't able to get them when I was in middle school, I wasn't ready for them yet... I went to the orthodontist every so often and we did a lot of dental work on my teeth to get me ready. We had to pull out like six or eight teeth...

I had to go through it because my mouth didn't have the adult teeth in it even when I was like 14/15. I still had two front teeth coming down when I was like 17. Some of us are really slow to the game.

Had'em during high school. Its better to do them earlier though, having them in middle school is not bad. The later you have them, the worse it is (socially).

Never had braces though I needed them. My parents were/are very frugal. My teeth aren't horrible but they could have used braces.

likely those two front teeth were never going to come down in the correct position at that point w/o assistance. it wasn't because you were a late bloomer at 17.
