I am about to get my wisdom teeth removed -and- pay for myself to get braces.

I am 27 post college :(

(Couldn't afford them until I got my engineering job, parents didn't have the $)

Got 'em off just before college. Had them for 2 years and they gave me some major self-consciousness issues. I will never inflict the pain of high school braces on my kids.
then start them off with braces in middle school. as soon as their baby teeth are lost they can begin the process of orthodontics.

don't have them go through braces when they are in college. much more inconvenient for one thing.

My parents/dentist were a bit slow on the uptake. At first my dentist wasn't sure I needed braces, but I always had some gaps in my teeth - it was always somewhat obvious that I'd have them at some point. I would have been so much happier to have them in middle school since that's when everyone else had them. I was one of like...5 seniors with braces in my high school. Although, once I started partying it didn't stop me from making friends (I would usually forget about it when I was actually having fun). Then again, I'm not sure if my parents' financial situation was as stable when I was in middle school as high school, so that could have been a reason.

I've been pretty lucky with my teeth. No braces and they're pretty straight. I'm getting a slight underbite, but the procedure to fix it includes breaking my jaw to reset it and being in headgear for god knows how long. No thank you, it doesn't even bother me.

I went to the orthoguy for braces recently and he examined me and said that its better that I get jaw surgery first as my upper and lower jaw are slightly off. Once that is done then they can focus on the teeth. The total bill -- around $75k.

Fuck that.

I'm 26 and have them right now, might be getting them off before Christmas. WOOT

I have only my top wisdom teeth in. They came in fine but have nothing on the bottom to mash against, bottom ones never existed.

Daughter and wife have them on now at the same time!

Daughter got them about 3-months prior to her 13th birthday and will have them on for about 22-months when they come off.

Wife never had braces and they offered us a pretty big discount so we felt it was time to correct all the errors in her bite & teeth.

Hardly noticeable as they both have clear brackets.

The stigma for teenage girls is much less than what it used to be plus about 80% of her friends either have them on now or had them on.

I know someone who had them on for something like 5 years (got them on in elementary school before his teeth were done growing in), then they put them back on because they fucked up and he had them for another year or 2. That must've sucked - I would've been fucking pissed at the orthodontist.

First, I had them on the bottom after some dental surgery. A couple years later, I needed them on the top to fix a different problem that had developed after I was done with the first set. I do not think there was any malpractice in my case.

I did not have bracers.

I actually wished I did, because all the cool kids seemed to have them, but my dentist said I didn't need them (as an adult, I *do* think I probably really do need them, but I don't care enough to go through the effort. my teeth aren't crooked or anything, just a little bit too close together)
