Boycott BP? Why?

Please elaborate on what criminal actions BP committed.
(Hint: there are none and no such charges will be brought)

Well, willful, wanton negligence can be considered criminal.

If you know a public bridge is going to collapse and put people's lives at risk, and you have the ability to fix it or inform the people responsible for fixing it, and you don't, just because you don't give a shit; that's criminal.

However, BP hasn't been proven guilty of that yet. So I'm not pointing any fingers.

Yeah a quick Google search proved that Patranus is a clueless partisan hack. Though we do agree on one point - it's very likely criminal charges won't be laid. Not because they wouldn't be justified, but because the US government is just too cozy with big oil. Keep in mind that when the Valdez went down, there was no jail time and the company was slapped on the wrist with fines totalling about 1/10th of the profit from a single year's operations.

How about Obama's MMS missing inspections on this rig.
How about that for negligence on the governments part?
The fact of the matter is that BP was negligent but it was hardly criminal.

So I point out the obvious and I am a partisan hack?

People that are bitching about how BP should be brought up on criminal charges are just as bad as people who thing Obama wasn't born in the USA, 9/11 was an inside job, the moon landing was faked, crack/AIDS was invented to keep down the black man (shall I continue?)

What about the GWB government which also ticked all the boxes without any scruples? My point is that YES the government was demonstrably negligent, but this isn't a partisan issue. I know that's a difficult thing for a small minded partisan moron like you to understand, but at least keep your BS in P&N.

Every legal analyst on the planet seems to disagree with you here.

Why isn't Obama getting blamed for the slow response? If GWB were still in office the lefties would be going nuts.

Seriously, wtf is Obama going to do? Is there an entire Army division that's manned by oil drilling experts that Obama can send in? This isn't a job that a pile of manpower is going to fix. This isn't something where the gov't has piles and piles of equipment to fix it just lying around. So, explain, wtf is Obama going to do? Do you really think that the top experts on solving this first of its kind problem are just standing around, having a circle jerk, while they wait for Obama to say, "hey guys, I was wondering if maybe you have a solution that will fix the problem in, ohhhh, about 45 minutes or less?"

do you really believe the shit you post? won't bother actually responding since you're obviously a troll or a nut job

You're right. Bush did get all kinds of hate when he fucked around with hurricane Katrina. This is just as bad as that (in a different way) and nothing is being done to fix it.

You can be held responsible if it can be proven that you knowingly broke environmental laws. Example: get your car to pass environmental tests then cut off the catalytic converter. You know that what you're doing is against the law and you did it anyway, so you can be charged.

Yeah he added that edit after my response, but I'm not going to respond because it's either obvious trolling, or Patranus is completely fucking off the deep end.

Wow! hardly criminal? Care to explain how it wasn't criminal without displaying a sociopathic style lack of empathy for the environment and nature?

I agree with this. I can see Obama using his power to levy regulations and fines so heavy that no oil company makes this mistake again, but there isn't much he can do now except threaten them.

If he just came out and said "i don't really know what to do to make them move any faster" i wouldn't think any less of him.

Meh. There's not a BP station around where I live or work, so I don't know what I could do that could hurt them. Donate money to alternate energy research?

The BP gas station near me usually has the lowest gas price in town, they are close by so I don't have to drive across town for beer, they often have milk and soda on sale.

By saving me time and money from driving further to acquire these items and the fact that their gas is cheaper, boycotting them would have a negative impact on my bottom dollar....why the hell would I fuck myself just to prove some stupid point?

boycott? Hell no.
8 gallons and I get a ticket punch.
6 ticket punches and I get a free Brewers ticket.
I do this all summer long and me and my family get to see lots of games.
That's like $3 a punch. Works for me.

Thanks BP!!!

With oil comes oil disasters. We need a few more of this close to home to wake the fuck up about dependency on oil.

I hate to say it but I agree. Last thing I want to see is even worse destruction but in the long run if it spurs the world to get off their buts and start getting serious about getting off oil it might be worth it. God knows the long term effects of staying on oil will be far worse.

Don't know if this video has been posted anywhere link

It compares a very similar oil spill in 1979 with this one. The '79 oil spill lasted almost 9 months, was operated by the same drilling company, was a big issue because of a failure of the "blow out preventer", tried and failed to use the steel box, tried and failed to use top kill. The only real difference is in 79 the rig was in 200 feet of water vs 5000 today.

I can think of one reason I would boycott BP.
During an interview one of the BP execs said that the accident could have likely been prevented had the workers reacted to the warning signs hours before the accident.

That the workers ignored warnings the system provided. To me that is shameful. To point the finger at people that are now dead and cannot defend themselves and use them as the scapegoat is disgraceful.

Are you kidding me?

Unfortunately, BP along with Exxon, Shell, Chevron, Conoco, and the oil platform operators like Transocean are the experts. They are the ones who do this stuff daily, the government is not. The government might have some people who are regulators that can offer advice, but the government does not have the equipment or technology to be able to do jack shit.

As much as it sucks, the oil & gas companies are the experts.
