Maybe because Pearl Jams Fans are too intelligent and Madonna's are too young? That's why I suggested Dave Mathews as his fans are at the same intellectual level as the DCs fans and could be as easily swayed by raised voices and sneering looks (which the far right perfected during the 8 years Clinton was President when he was doing to them what he was doing to Moanica).

No they are using their freedom of speech to intimidate the DC's. How come there isn't a big deal being made over Dave Mathews or Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam. Both of them said things much worse about Bush than the DCs

It's because the Dixie chicks are hometown (IE: Texas) mainstream country stars who are wildly popular. That makes their non-conformist views a mucher larger threat to the Southern Establishment than Dave Matthews or Eddie.

I think what the dixie chicks said only reflects what the rest of the country thinks of Bush, by the rest of the country I mean the MAJORITY... the people that voted for Nader or Gore.

I feel that we are filled with foolishness, Athanasius and that sometimes I can see a bit of it. What I see tells me that you can't argue people out of foolishness, till they see it's foolish. I therefore came to the conclusion that for others to see how foolish they are, I had to be foolish like them, but in some direction they were willing more willing to see. Now all that's probably very foolish of me, but to do it I had to be willing to look like a fool. Sort of the price of admission, I guess.

Anyway, one does hope, from time to time, to touch on something real. I try not to take myself TOO seriously and not to be too hard on foolishness so as not to be too hard on me. Anyway I have a wolf and a sheep intrusted in my keeping I try to satisfy as best I can with my limited understanding.

The Dixie Chicks get what they deserve. At one time they thrilled their fans and those fans bought their music and made them popular. Another time they pissed off their fans and that has made them unpopular. Such is the life of a celeb that lives off the good will of their fans.

I'll jump in here for fun... This is all basic capitalism and marketing.
These performers/actors/politicians are allowed by the constitution to say whatever they want.
And because they have become publicly known, their opinions are easily voiced in the media.
To say that anyone banning or boycotting them is unconstitutional or even unamerican is absolutely ridiculous...
This is how our whole system works. People have the right to choose.
The corporations avoiding the people aforementioned are ONLY avoiding public backlash for "supporting" them.
This is how public opinion and capitalism work together. Why is this at all a suprise?
The situation is comparable to how tv shows would not at first show elvis below the waist when he was dancing.
Its not because they were necessarily morally involved in the subject material, its because they are directly 'controlled' by their supporting advertisers, who are directly 'controlled' by their target consumer audience.
So do whatever you want... listen to the dixie chicks and bruce springsteen or whoever, but drop the underdog righteousness.
Its all market share.

Go Bruce! I couldn't have expressed his sentiments better if I'd said them myself.

It's obvious there is a backlash against the people who expressed their reservations about this war.

It's a shame because those people have turned out to be more right than everyone had thought - this "war" was not needed, as there have been no WMD's found (the "reason" for the war in the first place) and the "shock and awe" campaign was way overkill when it turned out obvious that the Iraq military was not much of a threat at all (12 years of no money will do that to a force).

Actually he just won three Grammy's and was nominated for two others including Album and Song of the year. His tour for "The Rising" has also sold out everywhere and is extremely successful. The places he's selling out aren't small either. His next 10 venues are football stadiums. He just had a concert broadcast on CBS. He has much more to lose than he has to gain.
