Boy Scouts...Are there any here????

I was in the Boy Scouts a long time ago. I never even made tenderfoot, but I did go on some pretty fun campouts. The whole rank system seems bogus to me, why can't the Scouts just be about having fun in the wilderness instead of worrying about how many merit badges you have?

Congratulations! I got my Eagle when I was 16, I've never regretted the time I put into it and the connections I made.

Cheers!
Nate

I got up to Life and quit because my troop turned into a bunch of potsmoking losers and I got interested in computers.

The badges and such force people to actually learn things (in theory). I'm not saying the system is perfect, but if you didn't have any rank/badge system things would be far less organized and productive. That said, people who don't want to do things won't, even with all the systems in the world.

Edit: And to some people, the rank system is an incentive to stay in scouts. It gives a person something to work towards.

I gave up because I just kept forgetting to go to the stuff. I wanted to do the stuff, I just didn't. Story of my life. =/

Ex-Boy scout went up to Life but I was so absolutely fed up with/hated those in my troop that I quit. Don't really regret it, as it didn't mean that much to me, just in it because there were quite a few good friends in it. They all eventually quit I was the last to leave.

I originally started so I could go camping and play with fire and knives.

My first beer, cigarette, and joint was all in boy scouts <--- not lying

I was kicked out eventually when I got tired of the whole thing and started speaking out about the whole system (none of the adults gave a rats ass about any of the kids in the troop aside from their own kids that they were forcing the whole thing on in the first place)

<--- Jaded ex-boy scout. (I won't be putting my kids through this unless they specifically ask.)

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to polish up the axles too.

We went with the standard wedge design. Just need to add some weight (I've read that you should put it above the rear wheels), and let my boy paint it.

That's exactly what happened to me. When my friends quit my troop I realized I was just left with a bunch of aholes, so I eventually quit too.

not sure if you can see this or not (the SA forums are free for a few views but charge after you browse a bit)
That should help a bit, look for a post on the main page by Arch Stanton

Just went on a Tiger Cub outing this morning. A hike out near Lake Hartwell. My son's a Tiger, I was a Boy Scout back in the day.

Anyone here ever been to Camp Old Indian?
