Bowel Problem!!

Hi! I have been having problems while bowel movement lately. I noticed blood with my stool the other day (not heavy bleeding though). There was no pain while bleeding, however the next day there was a little pain while excreting. There is a small lump near the anal opening .Without delaying things I visited the doctor and he told me to take lots of fluids, take a high-fiber diet, take a stool softener and also prescribed an ointment for use. Now the bleeding has gone away but sometimes it might hurt a bit. I am taking the stool softener and using the ointment.

The ointment composition is as follows:
1. Calcium Dobesilate Monohydrate BP (equivalent to anhydrous Calcium Dobesilate)
2. Lignocaine Hydrochloride IP (equivalent to anhydrous Lignocaine Hydrochloride)
3. Hydrocortisone Acetate IP
4. Zinc (As in Zinc Oxide IP)
5. Cream Base

Is the small lump going to go away and is the ointment any good? Is this problem a serious one? Please advice!

Thanks in advance!

Thanks! Hemorrhoids...is it very serious or something or will it take a lot of time to heal up?

Hemorrhoids aren't very serious, but can be uncomfortable if they get far enough along. Keep with the high fiber diet and stool softener and they will go away with time. Sorry for the graphic phrase, but try not to "push" so hard when defecating. That's usually where the problem arises.

Since we're in the Health and Fitness forum, I should point out that it is possible to get hemorrhoids from lifting weights. Especially with heavy leg exercises like squats and leg press. It's one of those things that they conveniently forget to tell you in the workout books/magazines.

True, however, you shouldn't be flexing your rectum when doing squats. That is improper form and not the norm for many athletes. Engaging the right muscles is key and flexing the rectum is not in the outline 😛

I'm keeping up with the high fibre diet, I'm having more vegetables. The stool softener helps though. I will continue with this. Actually my dad suffered from Hemorrhoids too, was very painful. Is this kind of a heredity disease thing??

I don't know if it's hereditary. It's usually from a poor diet, straining while in the bathroom, and weightlifting however there may be more causes. They'll go away though in time. Good luck.

I have your same problem. More water every day, more veggies and two apples everyday did the trick. 🙂 Pain no more!
