It's relatively safe in small quantities. It's used as preserving/antibacterial agent. It's approved for use in the U.S., and is present in other products besides imported toothpaste.

That said, I don't use any magic wonder herb, fomaldehyde containing toothpaste. I handle enough formaldehyde (as formalin) at work, thanks, I don't want any of that in my mouth.

Give me my standard low dose fluoride. Now that's the good stuff.

direct quote from your link:

Increase the rate of use to 5 times per day, and there's an insignificant difference between them. Add to the that, the convenience of meswak, and it makes a good supplement to a toothbrush, or a substitute if you have some kind of religious problem(I guess :^/) with toothbrushes.

baking soda and wet toothbrush for the win. This is all I've used since like 5 and never one cavity. Over 30 years - not one cavity. Got my teeth cleaned last week, was commented that you don't see many ppl my age with no fillings or cavities. . . I don't floss either. . . although, I don't advocate that. . . I'm just lazy.

I do think some of it is genetic, though. . . how good your teeth are that is. . .

pissed cause i was in the same situation until a sealant broke out. when i was younger, my doctor decided to put sealants on my lower molars. turns out that they started degrading half a year ago so a cavity was able to form underneath of the sealant and there was nothing i could do to have prevented it. first cavity on my adult teeth... :(

Never trust anything that tries to be natural or "nature's cure" or some shit like that. Scientists put a lot of work into finding which chemicals are good and which chemicals are bad. High school dropouts (ie herbalists) say fuck science and just use the whole plant, including the parts that are dangerous.

I always laugh when people say it is all natural , so it must be good for you.
I remind them of other things that are all natural.

Arsenic
Mercury
Castor Beans -ricin
Oleander
Snakeroot
Hemlock
Nightshade
Foxglove

and thousands of other all natural items

I went with a friend to look at manufactured housing a few years back where everything inside has been manufactured with some type of pressed wood product containing formaldehyde. The fumes were so strong I couldn't even look at the homes without coughing and my eyes watering. They even had notices inside the cabinets to 'air' out the home prior to living in it.

In the U.S. the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provided travel trailers and mobile homes starting in 2006 for habitation by residents of the U.S. gulf coast displaced by Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita. Some of the people who moved into the trailers complained of breathing difficulties, nosebleeds, and persistent headaches. Formaldehyde-catalyzed resins were used in the production of these homes.
The United States Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) performed indoor air quality testing for formaldehyde[34] in some of the units. On February 14, 2008 the CDC announced that potentially hazardous levels of formaldehyde were found in many of the travel trailers and mobile homes provided by the agency.[35][36] The CDC's preliminary evaluation of a scientifically established random sample of 519 travel trailers and mobile homes tested between Dec. 21, 2007 and Jan. 23, 2008 (2+ years after manufacture) showed average levels of formaldehyde in all units of about 77 parts per billion (ppb). Long-term exposure to levels in this range can be linked to an increased risk of cancer and, at levels above this range, there can also be a risk of respiratory illness. These levels are higher than expected in indoor air, where levels are commonly in the range of 10-20 ppb, and are higher than the Agency for Toxic Substance Disease Registry (ATSDR, division of the CDC) Minimal Risk Level (MRL) of 8 ppb.[37] Levels measured ranged from 3 ppb to 590 ppb.[38]

Dumb people fear what they don't understand like chemistry; instead of, you know, spend some effort learning it instead of spending time on psuedoscience, chasing celebrity tabloids and other nonsense.

I wonder what your bone level is like. I've seen many cavity free teeth fall out due to bone loss.

Also, I doubt your dentist/hygienist would advocate straight baking soda as a dentifrice. Sure, your teeth are clean, but you are wearing away your enamel, and even worse, your dentin.

You should be chewing xylitol gum or eating xylitol mints daily to help prevent cavities.

Did you go to the dentist regularly? Seems they would've noticed a faulty sealant before it enabled decay to form underneath. Hopefully the cavity was small and you had a composite (tooth colored) filling placed there. Not really a big issue, and looks natural.

Also on the list could be the venom of various animals, such as the blue-ringed octopus, or the inland taipan. 100% naturally formulated to kill.
