Yes, "apparently" your right  Just b/c ppl pay it doesn't mean it is reasonable. It is also the reason not many people pay it and the music industry says kazaa is hurting their profits. I think the music industry created this feeding frenzy and they will have to be the ones to difuse it with cheap music supply.

The Texas Attorney General just mailed me a check for $13 after a settlement was reached for a law suit against the music industry for price fixing in the last 80's and early 90's. The music industry execs. are a cancer that is trying to adapt to an anti-angiogenesis agent ;) If that analogy follows.

Anybody remember when singles DID cost .$99 Many artists still released them at that price (I bought one in 2001), and they usually included 2 to 3 songs/remixes :)

Actually I can get them even cheaper ;)

BMG music, buy 1 CD get 11 free, pay only shipping. I'm not sure exactly what the shipping charges are but I am assuming they are going to be less than $5 per CD.

Is this for real? Link?

Sure, it's real.

For any who were curious, I actually signed up and took my 7 initial free CDs last night. They do try to get you on shipping, it was $19 for the 7, but that comes out around $2.70 per CD. And that is for a real physical CD with liner notes and a artwork. If I'm just getting lossy aac files and no physical CD and no liner notes, it has to be significantly cheaper- and it's not, it's MORE expensive. Seems pretty absurd to me.

Why would they care?

They are still selling Pepsi/Sierra Mist.

And it only helps Apple. It is going to drive people to their music service, which will get people used to buying tracks online, which will only help boost iPod sales. :D

Yes they are still selling product but that has nothing to do w/ the bottle caps... I'm pretty sure they sell product every day no matter what. My point is a lot of people are going to buy these products expecting a free song and they will be pissed when some 12 yr old already stole the code thus they might be less likely to buy the product again... get it?...?

If file sharing disappeared completely right now, I guarantee you would be willing to pay more than 15 cents a song. Of course it doesn't feel like music is worth much when you have thousands of songs on your hard drive that you didn't pay one penny for.

i've only seen the Pepsi and Diet Pepsi with this offer. not with sierra mist.

just tip the bottle and if you see the word "AGAIN" - it's a bust .. if you see "SONG" - winner!

If filesharing "disappeared" I would still be getting REAL CDs from BMG music for net cost of $.20 per track. There is no way $.99 per lossy-encoded track is reasonable when you can get lossless music for less.

Or I might just record off the radio, which is perfectly legal. Sure it's slightly lower quality, but so is aac compared to a CD.

IMO iTMS isn't good if I want all/most of a disc, but if I only want a song or two than I'll get it off iTMS. If I don't like the band enough to buy the who disc I'm not gonna care that it's compressed audio either. Buying from some place like BMG or Columbia is a good way to get music very cheap. But you have to keep up on it or you get screwed and there selection can be very limited, or flat out worthless, depending on what kind of music you like. I've BMG a couple of times but they don't carry enough bands I like to make it worth my while.

And I'm sure you'll have lots of fun recording stuff off the radio (talk about a royal PITA) at much lower quality than an iTMS AAC file.

I think the band limitations of BMG can definitely be a down point. They certainly don't have local bands and bands that are maybe only popular in texas. As for radio recording... I haven't done that since 8th grade and probably won't start back up :p
