you do realize that car has 140hp...right? My bike has almost the same output...

nope, the car is rated between 150 and 170 depending ona few things. if there was a dyno close by i'd run over there and dyno it. Oh, and don't compare a car to a bike, there is no comparison.

Bikes ought not be compared to cars.

when you make preposterous statements like that "raw raw my 20+ year old car that i paid obscene amount for is faster than jesus". Hell my moms Taurus could take that thing with ease....

The usdm version had 145 due to restrictive exhaust to pass emissions. linky
Regardless though, the previous owner is doing his happy dance because he just got 1600 bucks out of you... Hell you could've gotten a supercharged MR2 or a Z that woulndn't be classified as vintage vehicle...

At 250K miles, the only racing you'll be doing is to NAPA autoparts

already that stuff. did alot of research before I bought this car. And no, I didn't spend an insane amount of money for this car. And your moms tarus? I owned one of those at one time, but it cant keep up with the supra. No, im not saying its the fastest on the block, far from it, but im proud of it and what it has. so there :p

I think you're somewhat delusional about what kinda car you bought. You have a 140HP coupe that remebers regonomics and has enough miles to make it to the moon.

Reality Check: You did not buy a hot sports car nor did you get a hot deal on A car. Your car weighs 2800lb (data from '84) and puts out some 140 150hp.
For the same price you could've gotten 87-88 TURBO coupe with half of the miles that could actually put out some power.

Wow, some of you guys are dicks. There aren't a whole lot of cars for $1600, let alone fun ones. I took a ride in this one and it was in damned decent shape for the miles. I've owned a lot of Toyota's sports cars from that era (82 Celica GT, 87 Supra Turbo, 91 MR-2 Turbo) and have never been disappointed. From the caliber of the posts, the majority of 23 year olds here would rather pay out the nose for a POS Honda and think it a race car, instead of avoiding debt and actually purchasing a fun used car.

There's no way you're going to find an 87-88 Turbo coupe in any kind of decent shape for that money. I paid $2500 for my 87 years ago (with 110k), and today those are fetching about 5G in this area. Not to mention the 7mgt-e had a pretty big issue with the factory headgaskets blowing even when running at 8psi boost.

Notice neither of those are in the Pacific NW. And a 7mgte w/ an auto is doing to be much of a speed demon either, particularly since the thing weighs about 700 pounds more at the curb than the older Supras. Not to mention the ad says that it's not running. Besides, a car on Ebay can be in any kind of shape, without inspecting it personally it's hard ascertain whether or not the price is decent. Did I mention the ad for that Turbo Supra says it isn't running? :D

I see you changed your link, well the new one has this to say:

MAJOR :THERE IS A MOTOR/ENGINE NOISE BETWEEN 1800-1900 RPM AND 2100-2300 RPM. BESIDES THAT ITS A NICE SMOOTH ROAR. ALSO THE TURBO DOESN'T SEEM TO KICK IN OR SHOW ANY BOOST UNTIL AROUND 3000 RPM, I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS NORMAL, MIGHT BE SOMETHING STOPPING THE TURBO FROM WORKING BECAUSE THERE IS NO SMOKE COMING FROM THE EXHAUST.

MINOR: THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, AC DOESN'T WORK, SOME WEAR SHOW ON THE STEERING WHEEL LEATHER.

Engine noise, ac doesn't work, that sounds like a death rattle. And on my 87 when it was stock, the turbo would hit full boost at 3200-3500, so that doesn't bode well either. The CT-26 in those had steel fins, not ceramic, and would wear out, at 150k original it's probably got quite a bit of play to it.

celica != supra

they just call it celica supra because they wanted people to know where the supra derived from. the one you have is a mkii supra.

the ones seen earlier in one of the posts on ebay is mkiii

drop in a 1jzgte =) you'll be pushing 450rwhp easily with stock turbos.

Well we're talking about relative performace compared to 140hp mk2 supra. As far as best performance/ $$ ratio goes, a fox body 5.0 or first gen DSM will run circles around the thing he bought with half the age and miles.

But not in any sort of good shape for the same price. For comparison, the stock NA MKIII Supra which produced 200hp and weighed about 3500 lbs was pretty close performance wise to the MKII, even with the extra 50 hp. A stock 5.0 from that era puts down what, 215HP and runs 2k-5k depending on shape and miles, and doesn't handle quite as well. High mileage turbo DSM's are grenades waiting for the pin to drop, especially for that money. Both would be faster, but I guess it depends on what you want in terms of price and reliability.

Oy BatmanNate, I remember working on your engine in your 87 turbo, that doesn't look quite right in that picture.

Oh, and halik, fyi, the celica supra, which started in the late 70s with the mki, is considered a supra everywhere you go. Contact a parts store, junk yard, insurance company, the bank, they all call it a supra.

Edit: Oh snap! Was looking close at the pics of the engine in the second link and realized that its not s 7MGTE! Its a 6MGTE!!!! LOL!

Why don't you come and see what my 1995 Dodge Stealth R/T that cost me $2000 will do to your Celica!
