Had lessons as a kid but got more interested in guitar. Still, I can appreciate some nice piano. Im sure you'll put good use to that beauty!

Why are grand piano's so expensive? Do they sound better than any other type of piano?

The higher end pianos are all finely assembled and fitted by skilled craftsmen. Grand pianos have better sound projection and a far superior mechanical action of the keys (pulled down by gravity instead of springs on an upright).

Grand pianos tend to be much more expensive due to the materials. There are cheap low quality grands, as well as high quality uprights. However, your average grand piano has better components than your average upright.

Pffft.....my "New Toy" posts usually involve guns, 550hp cars, $20k UTVs, or hardware components that I really don't need.

(super-douche response of the year?)

Anyway I really respect anyone who can play. Enjoy it, don't just let it collect dust.

Nice

I just got a piano as a gift from my father in law/mom. It was free though.

😛

My kids play and I used to play (still do from time to time) as I went to music school for 6+ years. I also come from a family of musicians.

I want one -- I can even play -- but I feel really bad for the suckers who have the move the thing for me. Last I checked on Yamaha's website, those mofos are over 500 lb a pop.

My dad was awesome at the piano. Now everytime I hear songs with a piano I get sad cause I think about it. I get choked up when I hear some songs too, specifically with bridge over troubled water by garfunkle. I can't make it through that song without shedding one.
