bought a new-to-me Honda S2000

Crappy cell pic after I detailed it.

Been wanting one of these since 1999. I finally allowed myself the treat. Picked up a 2006 AP2 model in Laguna Blue Pearl. It ticked over 18,000 miles on the test drive. The dealer wanted $22,000. I ended up paying roughly that much out the door, so not a bad deal. I'll probably end up selling my Accord and using the S2000 as a daily driver.

Loving the car so far. Went with the gf for a drive down Highway 1 and through the Santa Cruz mountains with the top down, and we both couldn't stop grinning. It has been a dream car for both of us for years. We had fun exchanging waves with a big Miata club heading the opposite direction.

It might not be a Ferrari or an Elise, but I still can't help but peak out the window every now and then to convince myself that I really have this car in the driveway. I'm super frugal and cheap about almost everything and this is the biggest non-practical purchase I have every allowed myself.

*In before the torque-less wonder flame!*

Congrats dude, looks like an awesome ride!

Even the frugal types (myself included) have to treat ourselves every now and then (although I haven't bought anything quite as nice as that!). As long as you can afford it, why not?

Looks good. You've been driving a honda already so it's not like anyone can give you any MORE shit about having no torque. /shrug

Do what you like and if you enjoy it, everyone else can screw themselves.

I've always liked the S2000s. I was sad when I tried to sit in one at the Houston auto show and discovered that I don't fit. If the steering wheel was adjustable I'd be fine, but no such luck.

Surprisingly I fit fine in the Miatas. I guess if I ever decide to satisfy my lightweight droptop sportscar desire it'll be a Miata.

I wish they were cheaper. I would like one or a miata, but they are not practical enough unless a third car for me at the moment.

I think it's an absolute bargain for what you get.

congrats....please do put up more pics. that blue is a great color.

Yeah, great color. Not boring like white, silver, or black. Not outlandish like yellow or orange. Kudos on the ride (and the subsequent smiles).

I envy your projectors (one of the best single xenon cutoffs around)

They are very bright and clear but the all-or-nothing cutoff takes some getting used to when approaching a steep hill.

For a third car, you could get an older one with closer to 100K miles for less than $15K. Still a lot of money for a toy, though.

I'll post more pics if/when we find our missing digicam.

One thing that surprised me was the level of mechanical noise, especially with the top up. You hear the gears engaging, differential whirring in tight turns, etc. And even sixth gear is very short. 70 MPH is 3700 RPM. The upside is that you can pull in sixth from as low as 35 MPH, so there is very little shifting in traffic despite the close-ratio setup. It is noisy, hard, bumpy, stiff, and a lot of fun. 🙂 The stereo is basically useless. Even at a stop, it has poor clarity and plays nothing below 100 Hz or so. At speed? Forget about it! Maybe I can put some Bass Shakers under the seats or something... But an alarm would have to be the first "upgrade."

I'll keep my torque monster LNF over the F22C1 in there, but man I envy your gear box. That thing is supposed to be as smooth as butter...

Awesome, you got yourself a fun little toy. Lighten up, save some, spend some, you got a good deal. Those things are plenty fun, but without fussy maintenance necessities.

I love those small nippy cars. MX-5 is a fun car too, although its a bit too...feminine. But its a fun car. 😀
