I'm just stating the truth. If she was to leave him he'd be screwed. It's stupid, but that's how it usually works.

But yeah maybe it's different in NZ
I'd be surprised if that's how it works in Canadialand too. But it's definitely not how it works in NZ, that would be.... retarded.

Like I've said multiple times here, that's not how it works in NZ. And again, because her net worth is greater than mine, if we did split SHE would get screwed, not me. And like my bro said above, I would be surprised if that's the truth where you're from too.

Also, there seems to be some assumption here that I'm buying a house that my GF will live in. We're both working professionals in our 20's - in fact, her salary is slightly more than mine, and she isn't paying off a student loan like I am. There is no charity here - everything we do is 50/50.

As much as I like giving you shit about living in New Zealand, I'd actually love to live there. Seems like it'd be really laid back and you'd always be near the ocean.

I can't imagine what it would be like to live far away from the ocean. I can see the water from where I'm sitting at work, and if I cross the road from where I live. This new house is only 2 blocks from the ocean's edge. The furthest I've lived from the sea is Rotorua, which is about a 50 minute drive to the beach. But it's surrounded by lakes which are also beautiful.

I grew up on the severn river, which is right off of the Chesapeake Bay, I've always loved living around water. Unfortunately work for me will always be in the DC/Baltimore area, so I'll have to wait till retirement to move near the ocean.

The coolest thing about where I'm currently living is I can drive 15 mins east to get to the beach, or 1hr west to get to the ski field :D

All year round? If so those are some freaky elevation changes! The same is true here Ski slopes about 15-20mins away and nice beaches about 10mins.
