Have you guys noticed police cars seem to rattle a lot? All the ones I have ridden in (in the FRONT seat, thank you) have rattled like crap.

I always assumed it was all the extra stuff that was bolted inside (computer, radios, shotgun :) etc.) but didnt know for sure.

Does your new car rattle, or is it nice and tight since all the stuff has been removed?

Mine doesn't rattle one bit! My friend has a 2001 Vic Interceptor and mine rides as smoothe as his, no shakes or rattles.

THERE ARE PICS NOW!

Nice pics, cant wait to see the daylight ones.

Of course the best thing about an old police car, none of your friends can do anything in the back seat that hasnt been done before. :D

No, it's a Ford 8.8 with a limited slip differential.

No, thats what the car came with but there is a 9 inch posi with track loc in it now. If it was an 8.8 I would have said it was an 8.8.

And you can just about double the "certified" milage.....cops let their cars idle for hours on end.......and while indicated milage may be low, engine wear time, form endless idling, is much higher.

Yeah they do let them idle quite a bit, this was a highway car though. Regardless, on a police car though there is a regular belt driven engine fan as well as two electric fans for the accessories, heavy duty 4 core radiator, heavy duty transmission cooler, heavy duty oil cooler and a bunch of other parts that allow the engine to idle for hour on end with no problems.
You prolly wanna get rid of that extra shyte before you add the blower ;)

The cops I know (and I know about 7 street cops from three different departments) take good care of their cars. All three of the departments have great motor pools too. They keep their machines in tiptop shape. I'd like to know where you have seen otherwise because I have never heard of it before... yes cops ROMP on their cars, they are made to take the abuse - they are not grocery getters.

Welcome to the club! I have a 94, got it with 7k, now it's just over 30k about a year later. We also bought 6 prisoner partitions (for $1.30), put one in... have a few left... along with some center radio consoles. We sold all but one, and put it in the car. Added CB + Scanner + Antennas, along with a functional radar unit with front and back guns. ;)

I'll take some pics tomorrow if I have time, but it just snowed here so they'll prolly be crummy. :(

I have a 1994 CV LX civilian model of what you have. They are very nice cars and can run just about forever with standard replacement/repair stuff. Talk with Metroplex here, he has a CV also(or had)

There are several decent websites with pretty active forums out there.

Crown Vic Site 1

Crown Vic Site 2

Crown Vic Site 3

There are others, Google around.

One of the guys my dad works with recently bought a car very much like that. I don't know if it was ever used for actual police work or not, but it's been modified to meet or exceed the specifications that the police cruisers have (I remember my dad mentioning the K&N filter and the dual-exhaust). He said the guy he works with took him for a ride and it flies.

Doubt if you want. My car has a 9" rear. When the guy replaced the tranny he did the whole thing stall covertor to rear end. The 9" is out of an 80's ford truck.

if it was replaced then yes it could be a 9". doesn't make much sense to do that though, as there's nothing wrong with an 8.8. regardless, i'd say it's time for you to shop for a marauder airbox & MAF combo, custom chip from dennis Reindheart, and an AED blower ;) Nice car, can i trade you headlamps?(mine is a 93 and the lamps are getting foggy :()

Use mothers mag wheel polish, sand them first with light sand paper. They will look new!
