Sure he is your 100+rbi guy, 30+hr, +.300 avr guy that you will get every season, but is it me or this guy look like someone who want these series to end as fast as possible? He doesnt look like a guy who's fighting at the plate, he is HORRIBLE defensivly( and god hes just a fielder!!!).

Im not a xxx team fan( /cry i lost my expos!!! )but now just your average baseball fan, but i think this ramirez really doesnt worth the 20 millions he is winning. If the sox are where they are atm, its for sure not because of him .

Your opinion on the subject?

No way is he over rated.....I've heard from guys in the major leagues who consider Manny one of the only players they'd pay to watch hit. It takes a lot to leave a major leauer in aw of their peers

And just who are those guys in the Major Leagues?

Hell no he isn't overrated...though he could watch Tom Emanski's defensive drills video a few times per season...that should be in his contract...

Only if it's endorsed by Fred McGriff 😀

I was thinking that as of late. He seems to take his grand old time running after the ball and last night when he was celebrating instead of running resulted in a single instead of a double. I swear I've never seen that guy do more than jog.

My mind is blank...but I was listening to Rome the other day and someone was on his show talking about it. If anyone else out there heard it, who was it?

Nothing against the stats he can produce.Hell be no.1 in any team. But his "series performance" are aweful.Ortiz smoke him 🙂

I think it was Eric Byrnes

Maybe the fact that he didnt produce ANY rbi vs the yanks didnt help too( ok damon was not always on bases, but u cannot only blame damon.)

But still...GO SOX GO!

Yeah, but you can blame Damon, Bellhorn and Cabrera who hit a whopping .247 against the Yanks...and Cabrera hit .370+ by himself...Manny can't hit solo shots every time up...

Manny = a great hitter + poor defense = not overated

At 22.5 million a year? For that much I'd want some fielding skills, running speed, and a bit of effort.. yes he's overrated as a player in general, though I'll concede he's a great hitter. Certainly not worth what he makes.

Take Bonds's salary and cut it by 1/3, Anyone who makes more than that is overpaid.

These guys fill the stands...which generates money. They entertain the people...we choose to come to the park and pay for tickets, food, souveniers, etc. Hell ya they should get a nice cut from that. If we didn't want them to get paid that much, then we shouldn't show up and watch the games. People who entertain us make a shitload of money. Dave Chapelle just signed for 2 years/$50 million.......what does that tell u?

I'm not commenting on that at all, just pointing out that if the above poster wants to use a very very highly paid player as a reference point, Bonds isn't it. Manny's paycheck in '04 was 22.5 mill.

Yep..and I agree Bonds should be making a whole lot more than Manny's 22.5. 18 mill right now is a bargain for what the Giants get out of him.

2004 Salary: $20,409,542

According to ESPN.com...

I wonder how I'd feel if I was making MLB minimum wage while sitting next to Manny's locker when that check rolls in every 2 weeks. :Q
