No, its not a preference or debate... Bose speakers can be proven to be sh**ty by labratory testing (which by the way has been done numerous times by a host of different enthusist magazine labs).

Bose is s**t. There is no getting around it. Bose is still in business because a person is smart yet people are dumb. "People" talk to each other and "people" watch Bose commercials and read Bose ads and then "people" go out and buy their worthless crap instead of "persons" trying to actually find the facts instead of just getting whatever the Joneses have; if the same "people" would do a little research, they could one-up the Joneses for less money and have superior quality audio.

I've got to disagree with this. I don't knock Bose for being different, I knock Bose for being old technology that is VERY overpriced. They just don't offer a comparable product to the other manufacturers, AND they overcharge on top of that!

BOSE may not be useing the latest in speaker driver technology. BOSE instead puts it's reasearch in to the enclosure. It is the enclosure that give BOSE it's sound. I have removed BOSE speakers from their enclosure and they do not sound pretty; but put them back in and they sound better.

I agree that they do need to improve their driver and then they would make a nice complement to their speaker cabinets. So BOSE if you are listening, ditch the cheap foam and paper cones that tend to rot and harm the longevity and long term quality of the product. Start investing some of that money in to better quality cones and surrounds.

If BOSE was asking $500 for this set of speakers, then I would say this is not a very good deal. No matter who makes it, at $199 you are not going to be getting a percect set of speakers. All speakers in this budget catagory are all going to have some sort of sonic deficency. So $199 in my opinon is not a bad buy for something that sounds fairly nice (not perfect).

For $199 I got a set of Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1s at Worst Purchase a few weeks ago. I'm thinkin' that they sound a helluva lot better than anything that Bose puts out at that price. Granted, they don't sound as good as the B & W Nautilus series but for 200 bones, they do a fine job of pumping out the sound, especially when they are being fed by a Creative X-Fi Platinum card.

Its nice when people have an chance to express their own opinions and experiences. It gives us the info to makeup our own minds. No more flaming. Nice.

"No highs, no lows; must be Bose"

Bose may have the most brilliant marketing department of any audio company; they get people to pay hundreds and even thousands above fair market value for a paper cone in a plastic enclosure.
I heard Bose once. They had highs and lows but no middle. It was a system with a subwoofer and two tiny tweeters.

A few of the posters are in favor of them. Thanks for your opinion and if you are not interested then please move on to the next hot deal.

"Cheap speakers"? It's $150 freaking dollars for the ONE brand of speakers derided by any knowledgeable home theater person as being poor quality, overpriced, improperly-designed speakers.

Friends don't let friends buy Bose.

Buy ANY speakers but Bose. Try reading some of the documentation. I know you're Bose-washed, but come on.

Buy the Klipsch, buy the Logitechs, buy anything else. These would be a deal at about $30, considering the cheap ass materials they use to make them & the purposely screwed frequency response.
