I think they are perfect for that kind of application.

Any recommendations on a cheap receiver (with enough power) to power these?

Onkyo 130 watts- Club Special: $249 +Free Shipping at ShopOnkyo

Normaly this reciever sells for $999 so it is a steal of a deal. Even at the sale price of $799, it is still a good buy.

They're '30% off; everywhere online. And your 'sale price' TX-SR803 can be found all over the net for that price, and lower.

I'm not sure what the point of making a 'deal' thread is when your price is no better than most anywhere else. And then again, $200 is robbery for that piece of ******.

They should be able to put out more bass without the "sub" that the bose set has.

mmm I built a pair of those last year. Good stuff  If you're going the DIY route, you might want to build a sub too:

I just picked up this center to replace my old one:

And here are some nice satellites too:

The Bose would be excellent if you are low on space and want a minimalist setup, although I'm sure a 2.1 set like the Logitech z-2300's would blow them out of the water. I had the z-2200s and they were amazing. Less than $100 on the Egg:

Well I didn't know about this deal. He's just sharing what he found; I bet the majority of the people who are reading this thread don't keep up on every since hot deal on audio equipment out there. And yeah, $200 is a lot, but if you want small size and brand name with decent audio, it's not a bad way to go. Saturn makes good cars, but I see a lot of BMWs on the road too...;)

$200 is not a lot, but yes, it is a bad way to go. I wouldn't have said what I did if it was a good way to go.

Well, I didn't say it was a great way to go, just if you wanted the brand name plus the other features. Some people I know are proud of the fact that they own Bose and that they spent a sizable sum on them. I'd personally never buy a set ($4,000 for their 5.1 Lifestyle 48 series? sheesh!), but for people who like Bose, it seems like a good deal. I don't even know if their CD alarm clock sells for this cheap, lol.

Don't forget everybody's favorite anti-Bose site :D

There is a difference between thread-crapping and telling people that this is a bad deal. With no disrespect to the OP, buying anything made by Bose just isn't a good deal. If you are trying to build a decent spereo or home theater cheaply, I would recommend the Polk Audio deals from outpost.com for speakers, and for a sub, look to partsexpress.com.

"No highs, no lows; must be Bose"

Bose may have the most brilliant marketing department of any audio company; they get people to pay hundreds and even thousands above fair market value for a paper cone in a plastic enclosure.

Are you sure about that? It is nice to see that you cannot provide proof to back your claim up.

Why would anyone get the AM-3s over the Promedia 2.1s?

Had a buddy who had the Bose for a small dorm room, but I picked up the Klipsch. I was never a big Klipsch fan but Promedias are just incredible. I can't believe they're called computer speakers.

I had the same thought. You can get used promedias for much less than the $199 that these go for. In fact, you can probably get used 4.1 (what I currently use) or 5.1 Promedias for around this price I cannot imagine that these speakers are the best that $199 can buy.

It's the whole Ford VS Chevy debate. You buy Bose because it's your prefrence. Others buy Klipsch or Polk, it all depends on what tickles your ears.

I think they are perfect for that kind of application.

I agree, just don't listen to music on them, they don't fill the midrange very well.

Of course the problem with these in movies is the lack of a center channel, but you'd just be watching it in stereo with this set anyway.

Addtional Speakers (eh-hem replacements) can be purchsed to create a 5.1 setup for cheaper than the real BOSE 5.1. Alternatively you could buy two of these deals and get the matched bose center channel speaker on ebay for 5.2. That would give you two sub woofers!

In my opinion BOSE speakers have a very neutral warm tone, that is good for vocal reproduction.

I've got to disagree with this. I don't knock Bose for being different, I knock Bose for being old technology that is VERY overpriced. They just don't offer a comparable product to the other manufacturers, AND they overcharge on top of that!
