Static guns are overrated for guardians if you have a fast firing SMG like my quad-shots. Heck... I even preferred my explosive gun with a huge zoom to my static SMG for the Sera guardians.

Agreed, a fast firing, high damage SMG is fine for guardians.

The gun can really eat up ammo though! I've been hoping that I'd get a good 4-bonus ammo regen mod with 18+ regen, but no luck. I found a 2-bonus with over 20 regen... that was a bummer.

Talking about Class Mods. They start dropping around level 20.

K, new question. I'm back to the main storyline, but I just realized that my weapons kinda suck now; I just started old haven, and its taking me 3 to 4 magazines worth of ammo to kill 1 guy there.

So, is there a good place to farm up some new weapons? Everywhere I look keeps telling me to farm new haven, from what I can tell that info is a bit outdated, as a patch took out some of the chests there.

Yep... class mods. They do drop before level 20, but it's pretty rare! I found an assault rifle ammo regen class mod on my soldier in the Dahl Highlands when you have to save Lucky.

One thing to remember is that Lance units will almost always be the hardest units for you to kill... they have quite a bit of armor. Also, the level of the weapon doesn't always mean much... my quad-shot SMG is something around 42 and it blows Lance away.

Everything you could possibly want to know about farming: http://gbxforums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=112671

As for Old Haven, you'll want corrosive weapons if possible as acid makes short work of all the armored enemies that are firing on you.

Sorry to be dense, but, as I am thinking about starting a new playthrough -- after I lost about 110 hours of playtime due to HDD failure -- and wanted to make sure I get the playthrough order correct:

Main Game
Main Game (Play-through 2)

Then Move to the DLC (in this order):
Underdome
Zombie Island
Secret Armory
Claptrap Revolution

Is this right?

Thanks, in advance, for the clarification.

Regards,

Both Zombie Island & Claptrap scale to your level once you've completed PT2 of the main game.
Moxxi scales to your level regardless, so you can do it whenever you want really.

Knoxx DOES NOT SCALE properly until you have finished the main story quest for that DLC, so for it, you want to be around level 50-52 as that's the level the PT2 missions start at (all the main initial Knoxx missions will be around 50-56ish; they won't scale).

So you want to finish PT2 around level 50-52, otherwise you are a bit overleveled & Knoxx becomes less challenging.

So here's the order i'd suggest doing things:

Main Game
Main Game (Play-through 2)

Then Move to the DLC (in this order):
*Underdome - this can be done whenever you feel like it; it's rather boring single player but a lot of fun co-op IMHO
Secret Armory
Zombie Island
Secret Armory
Claptrap Revolution

Nope, every quest has a recommended level. If you're above that level, it will be VERY easy. And if you try to do every quest, you will pretty much be permanently overleveled.

It really pissed me off the way Borderlands handles leveling. All weapon damage scales based on level. In a game so focused on guns, why should your level matter more than anything else?

It makes it hard to find the sweet spot. Either your guns are doing pathetic single-digit damage, or else you're mowing down everything with ease.

The gun damage is also based upon the quality and a few other variables. I picked up 2 weaans rated at level 25 guns that I'm STILL using at lvl 43 on my second playthrough through the full original game. Those 2 guns (A sniper rifle and a combat rifle) made most of the last half of the game a bloodbath for me.

Which was ok, because on my other character I was underpowered most of the way through and I worked for everything I accomplished!

I've been making purchases fairly regularly form the vending machines, and was wondering if it's worthwhile to do so, or I should always wait for something better to drop. I haven't always seen great things dropping, only a few decent weapons from the bosses--Sledge's shotgun and that mele flame repeater pistol from one of the first bosses (eh, already sold that one back).

I suppose that for first play through, drops aren't going to be that great, so vending machine purchases are expected? My unholy amount of deaths is costing me money, lol.

fricking 8 scouts running around in buggies. how the hell am I supposed to take those guys out? :(

I generally use the vehicle to run after them & kill them with the rocket turret.
Auto-aim lock-on (for the vehicle turret) is actually rather inaccurate against them when they are moving; i find it's better to not use it.
A good ranged revolver/sniper will make short work of them as well.

As for buying stuff from vendors, you'll definitely need to for some things like good shields/COMs, & some of the Item of the Day weapons, etc. can be good.

If you are really having trouble with all enemies with your current weapons, you can generally approach it two ways...

Either farm from better weapons, or accept a few more of the side quests to gain additional XP.

Once you know where to find the chests, you're bound to find something decent at some point, or you can always run thru, check the chests you want to, & then reload the game & repeat until you find something good.

I don't usually do sidequests unless they give elemental artifacts or backpack SDUs or specific items i want, as they are not necessary, & doing too many means becoming overleveled.
However, if you are finding enemies too rough, being overleveled a little bit isn't so bad if it means you aren't constantly dying :)

Enemy vehicles are must easier destroyed with small arms as opposed to the vehicle mounted weapons.

Money is pretty easy to come by, so I would buy any upgrade you want from a vending machine. If you want more money you can always go to a area a little lower level then you and blast though it for some quick buck.

One you get to Old Haven you can pretty much make as much money as you want by farming the area for expensive equipment dropped there.

wait--I can fire the rocket turret while I'm driving the vehicle? I thought I had to climb into the turret space just to fire that. I can only use the front-mounted machine gun while driving, correct?

farming for first play through involves chest runs? :(

OH--I guess what your'e saying is I can close in, hit c to transfer to the turret, then blast them.

I guess this works well if you flip over their vehicle. that was the only way I could kill one of them on thsi mission.

I had success with lesser buggies just using an assault rifle.

Yes, you can fire the rocket launcher with out leaving the drivers seat. You can lock on with the turret, but as others have said it is not very useful aginst other vehicles.

weird. I didn't change anything for vehicle settings, and rightclick was firing the mahcine gun for me the other day.

I do have a complaint about AI, though. So I'm fighting the boss that drives the tank, on my way to New Haven. rather than drive into that Arena (well, I died the first time, so after spawning just outside and getting a new vehicle), I park the vehicle on the top of that ramp leading in.

I just sit in the turret and start popping all of the buggies and the boss with my missiles. they hit me half the time, but they keep driving in circles so that I can basically sit there and blast them--outgunning them at 1:4. even the boss, when alone, just starts driving in circles on the central platform, approaching me in the same path, and repeating his path. too damn easy.

I just started playing this game at the weekend actually. I bought it in a steam sale months ago but only played the intro and wasn't very impressed, I gave it another go and now I'm quite addicted.

I'm up to level 20 now and is there any way to respec my talent points? I found a purple class mod that gives +2 to a few skills I didn't take so I want to respec to take advantage of it.

I'm finding that trying to sneak kill someone with anything other than a sniper is not possible. As soon as you fire your gun they start to strafe.

the teleport junction points allow you to respec and change character name/color etc. click on the 2nd icon in the top right corner of the window that opens on the teleporter. I forget the icon, but you can do it there for a price.

others will know, but I imagine the cost raises each subsequent time you respec. I haven't done it yet, and I'm not sure if every teleporter gives you this option, though I assume they do.

Every new-u that you can interact with lets you respec. The cost is based on the number of skill points you have invested with a max of $15k.

As for money, you will eventually max out your money very easily and once you max it out, you do gain more more, but it does not show up. Also, I sometimes save things that are worth a lot of money just to give to my "alts" so they'll have a lot of money. There's actually a secret treasure chest in Rust Commons West that you can get, but you have to "log out" to get out. If you attempt to leave the cover of the cliff, you will be killed by the game :p.

weird. I didn't change anything for vehicle settings, and rightclick was firing the mahcine gun for me the other day.

There are two types of secondary weapons for the vehicle... machine gun or rocket launcher. Rocket launcher is pretty damn useless though (in my opinion). You just lock on using spacebar and use right click to fire the machine gun.

Also, the vehicle machine gun is pretty damn useless compared to my Siren's SMG. I can destroy a vehicle in a few seconds, which is a hell of a lot faster than the silly machine gun :p.

Also, I cheese Mad Mel using the ramp method as well, but I normally use my own guns rather than the vehicle ones... they can still blow up your vehicle, which usually kills you if you're in it.
