Here's the latest news on the possible 'early' release for the PC version. I have no idea if this applies to pre-ordered digital distribution copies also or just the retail copies that slipped into legitimate customers' hands that are currently unusable.

It's 12:02 AM right now. Unless I get final confirmation, we'll have to sync back up in the morning.

I'm sorry we couldn't sort this all out for you guys and give you more information today, but I'm sure you want the right information.

I'd probably be more into this, but going out of town til Tuesday, so it's not like I'm going to be able to play anyway. By the time I get back, the L4D2 demo and Borderlands will be out.

Wow the people in that thread are whiny. Talking about how they'll cancel preorders and stuff if it isn't released early. Jesus. Learn some patience.

Still no update? I'm heading to the city after work, so I'd like to know if looking in stores for a copy is a waste of time or not.

The game will not be released any earlier than planned.

Hey guys,

Yesterday we learned that a fraction of the PC copies of Borderlands were accidentally sold to consumers in some countries but that gamers could not activate their copies yet. Since we learned of this problem, we have been looking into the issue to find the best possible solution for everyone.

I'm going to be completely honest with you guys right now. It is not possible for us to move the planned release date of the game forward. We could not possibly get the games into stores worldwide and out for digital distribution any earlier than planned. Less than 1% of all copies were sold, and if we unlocked the game today, illegal versions would most likely appear on torrents by the evening. I am sure all of you want our PC launch to be as successful as possible, and we simply won't be able to manage that any earlier than already planned.

I want to apologize for those of you who have gotten the game ahead of our release date, and ask for your patience and understanding. The game will be ready in the US and Canada at midnight eastern standard time on Monday, October 26th, and internationally by Friday, October 30th.

I'm not really surprised. It's not as if getting it a few days earlier/later really makes a huge difference, but I'd like to see games get released on the same day across all platforms.

Then again, even without the Steam 4-pack bundle, the PC version is $15 cheaper on Steam and D2D than the console versions.

Except in Canada, where the console version is $40.

BB and Futureshop have it for $69.99 CAD (out-of-stock). I don't know about Wal-Mart because I don't shop there. http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/

How does this pack thing work? Send someone paypal, and then one person buys the whole thing and send it to the other 3?

that's what i did. i was the pack-buyer, people paypal-ed me, then i gifted them the game on steam. worked easily enough 🙂

Interesting comment by a 2k community rep:

Borderlands requires a one time online activation, and then the CD to be in the drive thereafter.

I predict that the securom activation servers are going to be overwhelmed/buggy on Monday, making this game unplayable for some users for several days. Also, I don't know why publishers bother with using physical CD checks but not CD keys. CD keys actually prevent pirates from easily playing online, while physical CD checks only inconvenience legitimate customers.

My friend picked up his copy of Borderlands today at his Gamestop. My Gamestop is waiting for the UPS truck and then releasing their's. The Gamestop employee told me the street date was removed and as far as he knows, the game should be running TODAY. Anyone with Steam please confirm, last I heard the activation was at noon and it's past noon.

Nope, the Steam version is still locked/unreleased.

I did read that, but there's a couple problems with what she wrote:

1. Digital distribution has already occurred, Steam users have pre-loaded.
2. I don't think Gamestop accounts for 1% of the total volume of their sales. I'm leaning towards the greater majority of their sales. This is not an isolated incident, all the Gamestops are selling them. Even in other countries.
3. A PUBLISHER ADMITTED THEIR DRM IS FAIL?!?! WTF?!?!?!
