Thanks for the suggestions. I chose Maya since I wanted to start a fresh playthrough and I previously stopped playing with Axton partway through a second playthrough. This way I can get reacquainted with the game and be able to choose either Maya or Axton if I ever decide to play the ultimate vault hunter mode.

I think it's Extras in the game menu. Go there, sign up for SHIFT. Once you sign up you get 1 golden key.

Then go back to extras, enter the code above and get another key. Keep doing that as new codes are released.

The chest in the center of Sanctuary is where you use the keys for purple items. The items you get is a random type - weapon, shield, etc.

Here's a code (limited number of redemptions) for five golden keys:

Bit confused - why do you need these codes - are they for single player or multiplayer chests ?

The codes give you a key to unlock a container in sanctuary. When you unlock it you will get purple level appropriate weapons or items. To enter the codes click on extras - shift codes from the main menu.

Is this only relevant for multi-player or is it also relevant for single player ?

Gear is gear, so depending on what the golden chest gives you, it can be quite helpful. Keep in mind that multi-player in Borderlands (original and sequel) is just cooperative campaign.

In the game. I can't remember where though, been awhile since I put one in.

Thanks guys. How did you guys usually play this game? Do you go solo on first playthrough and then do coop in second? It seems like the community is pretty erratic and this game would be best played with close knit group of people.

So far I've only played the game solo. I would recommend that you play solo your first time through since the story is very good (Handsome Jack is a great villain) and public co-op players might rush through it especially if they're just playing to level up a character. Axton or Maya is a good choice for first time players. Early on I'd recommend focusing on survival skills such as those that give you more shields or health. You can reset your skills at any time for a small cost so don't worry about choosing the wrong skills. Also, since you can always respec your character, you won't need to create one character for solo play and another for multi.

The game does start off a bit slow and doesn't really pick up steam until you get to sanctuary and have a gun or two that you like (it probably takes about 80 minutes to get there). It's a great game though, probably the best from last year and I'd highly recommend playing it.

single or co-op with friends. I wouldn't bother with public co-op.

Agreed. I played the first game co-op with a friend and it was great, since we could go through the story together. I have finished the second game with a couple of characters in single player.

I tried multiplayer co-op with random players in the second game, and found it to be just basically trying to kill bosses and loot items. That is OK, but I think it would be very difficult to find a random group to stick together long enough to finish the story.

BTW, is it just me or is the game harder on all modes since the ultimate vault hunter patch? I know they buffed the enemies for UVH, but it seems like they gave them a lot more health and shields in the other modes as well. I have played a lot and have a pretty good selection of equipment, but in TVH mode now, seems like they do almost no damage sometimes, whereas before I was breezing through the game. Now I can get a critical hit with a pretty good weapon, and it doesnt even bring down the shields sometimes.

They announced the fourth DLC (final DLC for the Season Pass). It's called Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep, and it will come out on June 25. It sounds sort of interesting as Tina is your dungeon master, and she can change boss attributes and stuff on the fly.
