booze suggestions

Mookow

Lifer
OK, I'm looking to get my roommate a bottle of liquor for Christmas. My budget is $50 or under. I want it to be something new that I havent tried before, and also preferably a sipping/enjoyment liquor. Something like the bottle of 12yr old Glenfiddich scotch he got me for my birthday. Very smooth, but still 80 proof.
Incomplete list of stuff either he or I have tried before:
12yr old Glenfiddich.
Jack Daniels.
Black Bush.
Jameson.
Bushmill's.
Jim Beam.
Everclear.
Wild Turkey 101.
Southern Comfort.
Absolut (and Citron, Madarin, too).
Jaegermiester.
Jose Ceurvo Gold - tequila BAD!!!

EDIT: would prefer a whiskey/scotch/bourbon, but open to other suggestions.

hmmm...... i don't know much about booze

but the advise i could give is not to give what he has given you.... give him somthing new

Try some Tanquery Vodka. Hands down the smoothest vodka I have ever had.

Goes for about $30 a fifth I believe. Somewhat hard to find as well.

<< patron tequila.. but i think that's more than $50 >>

One of the things I didnt orginally have in the list was Jose Cuervo Gold Tequila... Neither he nor I like tequila.

<< but the advise i could give is not to give what he has given you.... give him somthing new >>

Exactly what I was thinking....

<< You could get him some Red Rum >>

What's Red Rum like? How much $$$, and what is the proof?

<< Jack Daniels! >>

Been there, done that. I'm not saying its bad stuff, but we still have half of a liter bottle of it left.

You could drink scotch and not tequila?

I had a bar for a year and if I didn't want to drink I would suck on a scotch

an acquired taste ewwwww no thanks!!!!
anything but 😛

Red Rum is 70 proof. It's a fruity mixture. Here's their website.

Well it doesn't seem like there's a distributor in your area. It's pretty cheap though, only around $15.

SCOTCH is an acquired taste? Well, the first stuff I had (dont know the name) sucked, but from my very first taste of the Glenfiddich, I liked it. Tequila on the other hand, just sucks, imo. Lotta burn, bad aftertaste.

<< How about some Goldschlager on the rocks? >>

Is it much better on the rocks than just chilled in the fridge? Both of us have had it chilled, but I know I havent had it on the rocks, and I dont think he has.

It's one of those that the colder it is, the better it is. Ice sort of breaks up the thickness of it as well.

I prefer Tequila over Scotch, but that's just my opinion.

I'd recommend Malibu Rum also. Smells and tastes good.
