First off, feel free to discuss how utterly awesome this movie is. Even with the multitude of faux pas in the movie, I still find myself watching it every night after I get off work.

However, I did have a reason for creating this thread. I bought the soundtrack a few days ago for basically one song (The Blood Of Cu Chulainn / The Irish opening song) and I was wondering if anyone knew of any other good Celtic music.

List the music, discuss the movie. Either or. Doesn't really matter to me.
 
movie was just horrible, I was hyped to watch it after people telling about it years ago but it flat out fucking sucked.
 
I always get scenes from this movie confused with scenes from Snatch.

Saints had the cat that was no more, right?

Fixed the question for you. That movie sucked seeds, it appeals to braindead, bloodthirsty 15 year olds and nobody else.
 
This is one of those movies that I had heard from so many people that it was so awesome so one dad I just up and bought it on DVD a few years ago, watched it and wondered wtf the hype was all about and never watched it again.

I'm not seeing the appeal.

Maybe it's like Blade Runner or THX 1138 or something like that where it's good for when it came out and everyone that saw it when it came out will always feel it is a good movie but if you've seen it a decade later it just doesn't have the same impact...
 
Good to know that I'm not the only one here with an addiction to it, albeit one of the few.

As for the sequel, I'm glad they are making one and I am also disappointed. In one way, I want someone to tie up the loose ends, but in another, I don't.
 
I wouldn't say it's "utterly awesome" - but it's definitely still a good movie. It also reminds me of Snatch because they're both full of hijinks.
 
Snatch, Fight Club, Boondock Saints, American History X, Clerks., majority of Kevin James' films, and many more are cult classics for that reason alone. They stray from the norm and follow such an odd sequence of events that most people are either drawn to them, or alienated by them.

All of them great movies, by the way.

Accidentally skipped this earlier.

For me, I watched this movie for the first time back in July of 2008 and I still fell in love with it. Same goes for every movie I listed in the previous post with an addendum of Pulp Fiction. Every one of those movies I watched years after they were released. Hearing almost nothing about the movie other than the occasional "Oh yea, it's a really good movie" helped, I think. The more something is built up in hype, the more disappointed you will be when it is released *cough* *Halo 3* *cough*. For that reason alone, I no longer watch game trailers as the past three games I had followed turned out to be colossal failures in my opinion (Hellgate London, Spore, Far Cry 2)
 
I don't know, I liked it. It was campy and didn't try too hard. The cat scene was great. "I might just be wanting a bagel with my coffee" lol.

I think a lot of the appeal is actually the way the two brothers live together and work together in that meatpacking place, and always seem to be on the same page. I always thought it would be really cool if I could have that kind of relationship with my brother.
 
A friend just lent me the DVD. I don't think it's the Special Edition. I'm enjoying it so far (watched about 40 minutes already), except...

On my PS3, the movie does not take up the whole screen. There is a black border all the way around the screen (16:9 samsung LCD). I don't mind black bars on the top and bottom (for greater than 16:9) or black bars on the left and right (for 4:3), but a black border on all 4 sides seems silly. It seems that I ought to be able to increase the size somehow to fill up most of the screen.

This is the first DVD where I've run into this problem.

Any ideas?
 
thought it was all right. finally saw it some years ago after many years of hype. I mean, I didn't think there was anything bad about it, just not sure why everyone is so gay about it. Then again, many are gay for all sorts of related movies, so there you go.

is it the faux irish meat head types you find in towns like Chicago that feel they can "relate" to it so strongly, what with their wonderfully sheltered suburban upbringing?

you have your PS3 set to triple scale, or whatever it's called, your SD material.

Thing is, it's a really good upscaler, but I too hate the framing. So I just set it to fullscreen, or whatever the setting is that fills up the sides. (maintains letterboxing for OAR).

Thanks for the reply. I changed "Upscale" on the PS3 to all the different settings (Off, Double Scale, Normal, and Full). None of them really work right. "Full" just stretches the picture all the way across the screen, but doesn't really increase the vertical height, which makes everyone look fat. 🙁 Is that the setting you use?

EDIT: I ended up messing with my TV controls and managed to get the picture to fill most of the screen. Thanks anyway.
