1632. It's about a modern West Virginia town being transported back in time and into Europe. They kick all sorts of ass with their modern weapons and technology and eventually try to make a new society based on American ideals.
 
I read entirely too much post apoc stuff. I agree with all of the ones I've seen in this thread. If someone recommends it, do not read On the Beach. It's a classic in the genre, but I didn't especially enjoy it.

- Spin by Robert Charles Wilson
- Lights Out by David Crawford
- Day by Day Armageddon 2 (third book comes out later this year)
- A whole crapload of zombie books that I can recommend if you are interested

Im Not sure about the 3rd DBDA i didnt like the direction the 2nd went in the final pages.But i will read the hell outa it, the best zombie/action series i have ever read and i have a large collection.
 
I'm a fan of Lee Child's Reacher series.

And Clive Cussler, when Clive Cussler was actually writing the books, wrote a fantastic adventure series. His protagonist is Dirk Pitt. Forget the movie. The books were 100 times better.
 
I see you already have Ender's Game on your radar. That's one of my favorite books of all time.

I didn't like World War Z so much. I thought it would be cooler, but it's just a collection of random short stories; there's really nothing that makes you want to press forward and keep reading.

The Legend of Drizzt is a good fantasy series set in the Forgotten Realms kingdom. R.A. Salvatore is a talented writer.

I'm also reading The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. Whatever your stance on the matter, he makes some very good points and it's a worthy read.

I'll second the Reacher series. I've only read One Shot, and it was a good, fast paced but tight read. Great beach book IMO. Looking into the series after that one has me interested in Jack Reacher as a central character so eventually I'll get to the others. A nice point is even the author has said the books are very accessible and you don't need to worry about which one you start off with. One Shot is, I think, the 7th or 8th in the series.

So here's where I'm at. Never really been one for reading books. I read a lot of shit online though, mostly informational garbage. The wife and I decided to get a nook a week ago. I'm really liking it. I started reading the only books I could think of, The Hunger Games. I'm pretty into them. I realize they are designed for a younger audience, not necessarily adults, but I do enjoy them. I wouldn't mind something a bit more adult themed with similar ideas though.

So here's what I know I like and don't like.

Warfare/Battle/Action
Strategy, Politics, Wit
Fast paced

Governments


Dont like:
Slow paced
to much wordy creative, descriptive bullshit.


In addition to finding some good fiction books, I'd also like some non-fiction to read. There is a huge list of books and topics to choose from. A few categories that might be of interest to me.

Psychology
Sports
Investing
..... and other books that might actually provide knowledge that can aid me in everyday life.


Hopefully my criteria aren't to vague, I just don't have a clue where to start? Perhaps there is a website someone could guide me to that does a good job of providing reviews/lists of books?

Vince Flynn has a good spy/thriller series. I cant remember what it's called offhand. Someone here on ATOT recommended it to me a while back. I enjoyed it a lot, so now I'm recommending it to you 😛

The first book written was Transfer of Power which is a good starting point, but Mitch Rapp's back story is in American Assassin. Definitely recommend this series.
 
Has anyone read anything by Daniel Sylva? I picked one up at half price books a few weeks ago, but keep bumping it to the bottom of my list.
 
You could try Laurell K. Hamilton's vampire books, though they may be a bit slow for you.

Also, Alastair Reynolds is an awesome Sci-fi author, you could check him out too.
 
Old Man's War - excellent series. It does away with the usual everyone plays by some set of rules to a free for all between space faring species.

Dies the Fire - Good end of the world book that's linked to some other book about Nantucket. The rest of the series starts going downhill though. I still read them since I knew the characters.
