The company I work for finally got a project that is funded by the stimulus plan.

One problem...everything you purchase in this plan must be made in the USA or funding will be taken away.

We no longer want this project. Finding electronics that are made in the US is.... well.... next to impossible.

its sad that people dont buy american. We should all buy american. Part of why our country is doing so badly is that we produce almost NOTHING here, meaning a heck of a lot less jobs. Even our own government signs government contracts for military airplanes to companies that dont produce their planes in the US. And the list goes on.

So, i say, pay a little more, and buy american.

Part of the reason we don't manufacture much anymore is because government mandates/regulations/rules/taxes have made it too expensive to manufacture here. It's only going to get worse as this administration adds more taxes, cap & trade, more regulations, etc.

well the only reason we produce overseas, with our, for the most part, SENSIBLE regulations, is because companies want to make insanely large profits.

deregulation got us into the situation we are in now, don't pray for it now, when we need it the most.

We have evolved from a manufacturing country into a service country. It's the natural progression of things. When China finishes its industrial revolution they'll be in the same boat as us and production will start up in some other 3rd world country.

unfortunately... service countrys are doomed to decline and manufacturing countrys are rewarded with rising...

while the head cashier at walmart can figure this out, why cant the geniuses at the head of our economy.

i follow you that a manufacturing company will continue to rise. And the way i see it, as long as it continues to manufacture, will have low unemployment rates, which leads to less crime, etc. (http://researchnews.osu.edu/archive//crimwage.htm)

But i didn't understand your walmart and geniuses at the head of the economy reference.

to me, all you have to do is look at when a city like pittsburgh was at its height: when they made steel. That provided hundreds of thousands of jobs, probably millions of jobs, and imagine this: unions were strong! And corporate executives still did very well. We even had regulations. Now, we have almost no manufacturing, very little unions , and very little regulations, to the point that if one bank fails, our entire economy fails.
speaking of banks, thats almost a whole 'nother subject. I dunno about you, but i would like to see regulation that made it impossible for a bank to be "too big to fail." We can't let some banks, that can be so reckless, be the reason our economy tanks.

Should have spent more of the money on actually fixing stuff. Did they set any aside for upgrading the power grid? When they pass that cap and trade BS, we're going to need it to be efficient.

you should be saying f someone else. most of the tax dollars were not used for these projects. Infact, no one knows where most of the money went. With the added cost of buying american, we pretty much know that we will barely meet the budget. The funny thing is that, atleast in my group, this "buy american" stuff only effects 25% of our project. The rest of the stuff (conduit, wires, control panels) are all made in the US anyways and those places that make the stuff were not struggling in the first place.

Maybe if people bought a little more american made products to begin with we wouldnt be in as bad of shape as we are.

you realize that a shitton of people were offered loans on houses they couldn't afford, accepted, and then all started defaulting at the same time, and that's what caused everything to tank, right?

housing bubble burst = bad shit. don't blame it on "not buying american." it's called "people are too fucking stupid to take responsibility for themselves."
