Why? A Boise vs TCU NCG would be absolutely meaningless. I wouldn't mind if Boise or TCU would play another team, though. I'd like to see Boise vs Oregon, for example. There is no point in watching another Boise vs TCU game; we need to see if either team can hang with the big boy conferences, and that will only happen if they play a legit contender.

Or if there was some sort of system that was single elimination and paired up the top sixteen teams around the country with winners moving on to another game until there was one team left standing....

Too bad the so called "legit contenders" are afraid to play them.

Yeah, because people really care to see Ohio State or Oklahoma choke in yet another title game. Without a playoff system, who cares about any of the bowl games, as its still just politics in deciding rankings.

At least it would likely be a good game. They've played each other like the last 2 years, and they were good games. I'd like it because they've proven they can hang with the big boys (well the ones that are willing to actually play them). Why should these big schools even get the chance to play them in a bowl game if they're not willing to play them otherwise?

How do you pick which teams goes to the playoff? If its by rankings, then teams like Boise St will be ranked high and people will bash them because of their "easy" schedule. If its by conference champion, then teams like Boise St will be at the top of their conference and people will bash them because of their "easy" conference.

You would have a valid point except that the playoff system would make them back it up. There will never be a perfect system, but a playoff system would be an absolute improvement.

If Boise St did "back it up", you still have people complaining that Boise St played an easy schedule/conference and therefore was less banged up going into the playoffs, i.e. an advantage.
 
8 top 25 teams lost this weekend.

boise needs to enjoy being #1 while it last because their strength of schedule will kill them in the computers by the end of the year (esp with nevada loss).

Those people will always whine about something. Also, they're idiots, so who gives a fuck what they think. They can argue about it, but the results will speak for themselves.

There are 11 conferences in NCAAF, each conference champion gets an automatic birth and 5 at large bids. The BCS system could help in picking the next 5 bids and the overall seeding.

There is a new book out called Death to the BCS or something. One of the authors was on the local sports talk radio show here and they have it all laid out and it would make more money than the BCS system now.

Exactly. they would still have an advantage, but a playoff would be a huge improvement. If they survived a 16 team playoff, they'd be pretty legit though.

If a 2 loss team doesn't make it to the NCG, I don't see a problem, you can't expect to lose 2 games and play in the NCG. However, I would still say a 1 loss Bama is just as deserving (maybe more so) the NCG than a no-loss Boise State team. Sure, Boise hasn't had much of a chance to play big non-conference games, but that doesn't change the fact that their schedule is still a cakewalk - unlike getting through the SEC (and for the record, I'm not an SEC fan).

The "legit contenders" play quality opponents almost every week of the conference portion of their season. Why should they add a Boise in there just so Boise can have one quality opponent?
