I want Lay-Z-Boy to develop an airplane, where each seat rocks, reclines, has a foot rest, heat, massage, etc.

:)

I also heard that THIS plane can in-fact overcome the the opposing force of a conveyor-belt and actually take off!! :p

Pffft, all they need is to create teleporters; problem solved.

Who the hell needs damn planes...

The article is basically BS. Don't trust anything unless it's a Boeing press release. The BWB has been in conceptual design for a very long time, but mostly by researchers (I think some people at Stanford) and Phantom Works. It has a bunch of problems, including lack of exits (can't evacuate people easily) and no windows - passengers HATE not having windows. This thing is not even close to where the HSCT was... and we all remember what happened to that. The BWB being the next plane is as far from being sure as you can possibly get.

<----- Aerodynamicist for Boeing

I graduate next weekend and go back to Boeing in two weeks... I'll see what I get to work on :)

thanks for posting. Becuase I hit the news sites, with no hits. a-netters aren't saying anything either. It would have been a 100+reply post if it was legit.

I couldn't think of the resources needed to design this now. The 787, the 747-800, the 737-900ER, 757 winglet project are currently in the process, with a 737 replacement in the guessing/design works, little room for something in this scale.

I'm not saying the next plane won't be a BWB... but it's waaaaaaaaaay to early to say anything about the next plane. It could very well be the next plane in development, but that by no means will make it the next plane that goes into production (like the HSCT).

I wouldn't put a dime on anything.

To be a real 'ultimate Airbus crusher' it would have to rack up over 160 orders. Tomorrow. Has it got even one? No.

If that's true, not many people with a window seat, and think or how many ailse that thing would have. It would sure be a sight to see though.

People want windows. I think Boeing did a study once and surveyed people about airplane windows. It would be much cheaper for Boeing to have no windows and instead have an LCD at every seat and cameras to the outside. However, when presented the idea, the people they surveyed would much rather have windows.

2nd paragraph, OP.

Well, if they did build it, I'd give a good bet that it would sell well, but despite what the article says, this thing isn't leaving the drawing board any time soon.

And just think of the fun of the people on the outer seats as the plane banks.
It might end up being called a BWB, Blended Wing Barfer.

I heard that was one of the factors that killed the project, but that was word of mouth, so I have no source...

A bank wouldn't be that bad. Heck, you can't even tell when a 777 stalls unless you look out the window.

Yeah, but your distance from the center of gravity is MUCH greater in this design.
